Can someone please explain to me how it makes sense that you ALSO need to use ore when crushing gems now?
You prospect (expenssive ore) to get the gems, and then when you want to crush the gems, you have to use ore again… eehhh what?
Why did no beta testers scream about this?

Beta testers did scream about the over use of resources in a lot of professions. Some were fixed. JC is better than it was but still really bad. Stop stop stop blaming beta testers - it gets old. When things get reported as issues again and again the responsibilty is not that of beta testers.
It’s absolutely awful and redundant.

I am not blaining the beta testers.
just wondering how this made it to release.
I wonder about why it got to release too. it’s that question above that I have a problem with. It assumes no one ‘screamed’.
because mats are free on beta on the profession testing realm and you never can tell how scare things will be once it hits live
Because clearly they didn’t sell enough tokens with all the changes they made in DF, so they have to pad in more scarcity (time, gold) somewhere in TWW.
Truthfully, blizzard has failed on making professions engaging.
They are on the right path, but they turned into an annoying and frustrating grind.

They had that in DF so it isn’t new.
Sadly, JC this expansion went back to the moronic, smooth brain way that legion had it where you get useless garbage 90% of the time and just a few times you get a gem. And whoever thought we needed a consumable ingredient to cut the gems should be fired.

No, you do not need ore to crush gems in DF.
So yes, it is new.
Blizzard doesnt know how to make things genuinely engaging, they just know how to make things tiresome and convoluted.

Yeah, JC is outrageously grind-y, maybe it’s not the worst (I have only done TWW on two chars so far, one herb/mine and one JC/mine) but it’s pretty bad. Even with two toons that mine, I can’t level JC for crap. I can’t collect enough ore to make it through more than one or two leveling/KP crafts a day, it just doesn’t drop enough. That includes having both miners with the phial that reveals camouflaged nodes, the drop rates are just atrocious.
Edited to clarify: I am actually not that concerned about ore drop rates per se, only that given how much of it you need to do just basic things, it doesn’t make it worthwhile.
I figured that (at least given the numbers from wowhead) it would take at least 2,124 Bismuth Ore just to make the First Craft of every JC recipe that uses the dust from crushing gems (that includes ore needed for the recipe itself, or for the engraved gemcutters) , and that ignores the number of ores one would need to prospect to get the gems themselves. It’s truly outrageous.
Sounds like blizz nerfed multiple profs.
I’ve been leveling enchanting, blizz removed the ability to shatter higher tier mats for lower tier mats.
So all enchanters are swimming in shards and desperate for dust. 1 dust is 120-150 gold, comes from greens. A shard for blues is 8 gold.
