Came here to post this, Just started it and…

So far he’s describing my childhood, SoCal, riding your bike to arcades, intellivision, zork, and Ultima.

And Lex is always pretty good.

Lex is also on Spotify if you don’t want to hit the skip button every 5-10 minutes.

Edit: The discussion starting at 2:22:00 should be required for every dev. Especially the explanation of the failure of The Green Hills of Stranglethorn.

Talk about burying the lead… 5 hour interview before plugging a new game. Looks good, Possibly a super polished Valheim like game set in gold rush times.

The worst part is this developer’s hypocrisy. Of course, he complains about the treatment and the evil Blizzard inflicted on OW2, a game they clearly didn’t realize was going to fail. Then he tells you to shut up and just consume.

When have there been bad games like Concord, Horizon Hunters, The Last of Us Part II, and Highguard? All you see is a business deal: consume any garbage they send you and don’t complain like a slave, playing games that aren’t entertaining.

Pathetic and hypocritical. A failed sequel that, in the end, only revealed its own shortcomings with this behavior.

No one’s perfect.

But in terms of judging someones character, I think I’ll go with the five hour interview over a 2 minute clip which I’m sure is taken out of context.

And really not that bad… What did he say in the clip? Everyone has an opinion, but If you’re criticizing a game you’ve never played I’m not going to listen to you?

It’s blunt, not that unreasonable, and also cuts both directions.

The problem would be that everything would be fine IF VIDEOGAME TRAILERS AND STREAMERS DIDN’T EXIST.

Well, you haven’t played that video game, you don’t know much about it beyond what’s in it, and the interviews and content creators are just baiting you to decide whether it’s good or bad. You can’t really comment until you know for sure if it’s a game that deserves the entertainment you need.

But at the same time, you have to understand that you’re in a delicate situation. If you want people to play YOUR VIDEO GAME, they need to know about it. A key point for developers when promoting it is generating hype through trailers and content creator endorsements.

And even then, thanks to streamers, you save time and money if the game is actually worth playing. So, there’s no need to criticize a video game you haven’t played when you were just a spectator of a poorly developed game.

So, you know, part of it might be true, but as I said, it’s a very thin line whether we really have to keep quiet or not when judging a video game we haven’t played, especially these days with so much information readily available and quickly known at the time of its release.
