Jaina Proudmoore is a Horrible Human Being

So we’ve been amusing ourselves in our home by reading the novels and lore books over the holiday season, and my husband and I are both just completely mystified by the Alliance’s respect and love for Jaina.

Sure, she’s been around as a “hero” since WCIII. We played that game back in the day, and here’s the thing: Jaina has all this power and all this diplomatic pull, and she never does a thing–never lifts a finger–to stop evil. She always turns her back on it and walks away. Sure, she says things like, “I can’t watch you do this,” but did she actually try to stop Arthas from slaughtering innocent people? When she still had the power to single-handedly take him down, she did nothing. She teleports in and out to say something sanctimonious and do absolutely…nothing.

Later, she’s super powerful and enjoys her role as the chief honorable talking head that brokers peace with the Horde and befriends Thrall and Baine Bloodhoof. The one really honorable thing she tried to do was convince Thrall to come down off the mountain of shamanic earth-healing bliss and fix what he broke by putting the psycho in charge. When he refused, she didn’t put up much of a fight. She didn’t even express her anger.

After Garrosh obliterated Theramore, Jaina’s first instinct–the FIRST. THING. she decides to do is steal the same artifact, lie to the man/elf/dragon she has fallen in love with, and obliterate Orgrimmar with all of the innocent people in it receiving the same treatment Garrosh gave the small outpost of Theramore. She was going to do the same evil thing on a scale an order of magnitude greater. It took Thrall and a former dragon aspect (same aforementioned man/elf/dragon) to stop her. She wasn’t going to stop. She didn’t have some heroic change of conscience.

Inexplicably, the Kirin Tor overlooked her thievery, her deceit and manipulation, and her near-miss attempt at killing more innocent people in one second than Garrosh did his entire reign, and made her their leader. WHAT?!!! Oh, she apologized and gave the artifact back. Okay. Totally makes her Kirin Tor leader material. /eye roll

Shortly after, she attends Garrosh’s trial in Pandaria. As the leader of the Kirin Tor. As the leader of the solidly neutral council that governs magical issues and safeguards magical balance in the world. The council that absolutely cannot ever take political sides.

Does she sit in the middle? No. She sits with the Alliance leadership glowering and complaining that we can’t just slaughter Garrosh outright. She’s still salty for revenge.

She is in no way qualified to lead the Kirin Tor. She is in no way qualified to be an Alliance leader. She is in no way qualified to lead the Kul Tirans. She is a horrible human being.

So she is Harry Potter? Ah she is a Gryffindor. No matter how bad their crime is, it must be forgiven

She’s also started dressing more conservatively. Remember when twenty-something Jaina wore a crop top that hiked her boobs up to her neck? Good times…

I think something inside Jaina broke after all the crap with her father and arthas. You dont come back from that with all your marbles intact which is why she rarely does anything useful these days

This is Horde bias.

Its almost like the overload of arcane magic had driven her insane and she wasnt truly healed until Chi’ji healed her at Garrosh’s trial. But I guess acknowledging that would make it harder to paint her as a terrible person instead of a victim of a warmonger.

I mean you’re just straight up making this up. They’re one of the original seven human kingdoms and were part of the original Alliance.

Burn Jaina at the stake!

No, I’m not. They were never a separate kingdom. They were always set apart for the study of human magic when the elves realized they couldn’t put the genie back into the bottle. They were separated from the political entities/city states because their responsibility had to be to the magic…not the kingdoms.

The Kirin Tor TODAY says they are neutral in political matters. They told Jaina they couldn’t intervene in Theramore for that reason, and she had to literally beg and make a case to get them to even consider it. Even then, they only came to aid in defense. The book mentions that she had to consider having to be neutral if she took the job.

I didn’t make up anything.

And her response after Theramore is not the only thing I mentioned. I mean…I wrote a whole wall of text about why we never much cared for her, and the bomb she wanted to drop on Org was only a piece of it.

Really? They sure took sides until Blizzard shoehorned them into a neutral faction solely for the purposes of allowing the Horde to use Dalaran as a hub in Wrath.

I’m just going with what the books said.

The KT meddled heavily in the whole Stromgarde/Lordaeron/Stormwind stuff after the first war, too, but it’s either canon or it isn’t that they’re a neutral faction.

Wow who would of guessed, you wipe out THE MOST diplomatic person is this games nation and they want revenge, how evil!

The Kirin Tor was one of the original seven human kingdoms. They were part of the Alliance of Lordaeron. They fought against the Horde in the First & Second War. They closed the original portal. The fact they went neutral is a recent change primarily done for game play.

They absolutely were. This is not up for debate. They were one of the seven human kingdoms and fully independent from the others. The elves had no part in the founding of Dalaran.

They also took sides in Cataclysm, fighting against the Forsaken in Silverpine and at the Dalaran Crater.

Is sylvanas any better?

Pretty sure Kirin Tor used be considered alliance because in WC2 the horde campaign had a map where you invaded and destroyed their stronghold.

It’s okay when the Alliance does it.

Not at all, but she isn’t held up as a Pollyanna good guy. We’re supposed to LOVE Jaina and feel sorry for her and all her suffering. We’ve never been told by the lore to love Sylvanus.

I’m confused if slyvanas isn’t better why complain
