When Jaina and Thalyssra use the Tidestone to breach the Gate of the Queen I noticed that Jaina’s Arcane is complex having White, Pink and Orange strands of Arcane interwoven together while Thalyssra has Blue and Pink beams of Arcane side by side crashing into the Tidestone!
This is probably deliberate with Lore reasons for the type of Arcane beams for at least one of the two Mages.
Interesting to note is that Thalyssra’s Arcane beams are the same color as Elisande’s Zones of Fast Time(Pink) and Slow Time(Blue) while Jaina’s Arcane strands are the same color as Imperator Mar’gok’s Fortification(Pink), Replication(White) and Displacement(Orange) Arcane Magic combined with normal Arcane(Purple)…
Thalyssra’s variant of Arcane is understandable since she worked with the Nightwell when serving under Elisande and thus would be using Time Magic regularly even casually yet I’m confused by Jaina’s Arcane resembling Mar’gok’s varieties of Arcane combined…
I’m going to assume Thalyssra’s Pink and Blue Arcane Beams was deliberate while Jaina’s Multi-Interwoven-Strand Arcane Beam was an attempt by Blizzard to give her a General Type of Arcane Beam without paying attention to the Lore as that makes the most sense to me.
i would not trust blizzard to pay attention those kinds of details.
do we have any actual lore source about the colors of the arcane?
i mean, to be honest i haven’t been comparing the different types of colors of other mages like imperator, ellisand, azshara or khadgar.
i just assumed that it was all a combination between purple and blue.
Mar’gok’s Arcane Magic shifts from Purple in Phase 1 to Orange(Displacement) in Phase 2(1 in Mythic) to Pink(Fortification) in Phase 3(2 in Mythic) to White(Replication) in Phase 4(3 in Mythic).
Elisande summons Slow Time Elementals which use the Blue Manafiend Model and when killed create a Blue Zone of Slow Time. She also summons Pink Fast Time Elementals which when killed create a Pink Zone of Fast Time. Elisande’s Stop Time Spell is Blue just like the Slow Time Spells.
You can tell that Thalyssra has different Arcane Magic from Jaina. Figuring out the color of Thalyssra’s Arcane Magic of course is a challenge. I was lucky to Screenshot the Arcane Beams at the right moment… Any advice on how to post the Screenshot online?
Presumably Thalyssra and Elisande were trained under the same school of magic whereas Jaina was trained primarily by the Kirin Tor but has recently eplored her Kul Tiran traditions more closely.
If anything, Thalyssra and Elisande having different colour arcane would just be from their ten thousand year old connection to the Nightwell. Like green eyes or green skin, the magical taint just hasn’t gone away yet.
I think Jaina’s magic is supposed to be the generic arcane look. Thalyssra has skill in chronomancy so maybe that’s why hers is darker? Could also be lingering Nightwell energy in her body.
I’ve always considered Time Magic(which is the Magic used by the Nightwell since it was created by the Eye of Aman’Thul) distinct from the usual Arcane Magic… The Cutscenes in Nazjatar only serve to confirm this theory.
I think it’s a specific application of arcane magic since Thalyssra is still capable of using time magic despite the Nightwell and the eye being gone (she casts a healing spell in Nazjatar called “Rewind Time”).
It might be reasonable to believe that the eye of Amanthul made it easier for them to grasp it in the first place though. Nightborne and Bronze Dragons seem to be the only races who have been able to harness Chronomancy, so it may be particularly hard to master.
Or it’s just… y’know… different spell effects? Jaina uses the conventional Arcane visuals, while Thalyssra uses the visuals from Legion. Nothing notable really.
