I've figured out the key to understanding WoW's lore

It’s like trying to understand how time travel works on Legends of tomorrow. Just roll with it and don’t think too hard about it. It’s much more enjoyable that way and far fewer headaches are incurred.

Just roll with it and don’t think too hard about it is sound advice imo.

It’s just easier said than done for someone like me, the lore of WoW is what sucked me in, in the first place.

And I don’t care if people think it’s bad or good; to me it’s always been interesting and entertaining. And pretty.

I still think the lore is good. It’s how it’s being used that’s bothering me right now. Conceptually the world is really expansive and interesting, and even the whole idea of the Shadowlands isn’t bad. It’s how the narrative has used these worlds that makes them problematic, which is so frustrating to me. Fanfic writers can and have done better than what professional writers working at Blizzard have given us.

But I also agree with you: the lore is what brought me in. In particular, I loved what the Horde was before Garrosh; a collection of normally monstrous races that weren’t entirely evil. That has unfortunately flown out the window at this point and I have no connection to this Horde that is incapable of making a good decision, and that’s entirely the fault of the writers.

See, here’s my problem with your hot take:

Blizzard: “If we write everyone as dumb, then we don’t have to think about the lore!”

Except that, yes actually, WoW lore should be both taken seriously and well thought out.
