I've come to realize my fate

That I will be with WoW until the servers die or I do. Whichever comes first.

Left Guild Wars and I made an account and started playing a few months prior to the Gates of AQ opening. Had a 60 tauren warrior, still have him.

In any case I have been on and off with this game. Always thinking something better would come along when I grew bored of it.

I have left and came back so many times.

Left for Warhammer Online, DAoC, Age of Conan, Star Wars Old Republic, and Guild Wars 2.

Always. Came. Back.

Which led to a realization for me. I think what brought me back all of those times, other than new content and great gameplay, was because of “prestige”. The achievements. Im not an achievement hunter by any means. Many people who started this game later than me have more.

I think its the time I have spent on it and the fond memories of my guildmates who are long gone and some who have even passed unfortunately.

I started just when I began college and have played the last, almost, 20 years.

I am married and have children, have a great career and my two oldest 6 and 5, I have four boys, play this game now. Never would I have thought my kids, much less have any at all, would be playing this game.

But as I said earlier, I think I am going to be with this game until either it dies or I do. Or the power goes out and never comes back lol. Whether the writing changes and gets better or worse, as long as the game play stays as reminiscent as it always has been, I will be here.

Plus I started when i was 19 and now I am 39 with a family so I dont have the time or energy to move on to a new game so maybe thats another reason lol. In any case. I am stuck. But I like it.

Hopefully whoeever reads this can relate or not at all. To each their own. I just know Im staying here.

1000% here too, been around with some small breaks since Summer of 2005 when I started. Got to experience the 40-man weekly raids, caring about my DKP etc. I too plan on being in WoW until the end. Just nothing else out there that interests me as much as WoW does.

I was recently having a conversation with someone about this.

I predict WoW is going to be around long enough that it will experience the passing of a generation. Eventually, this game will have some kind of memorial for players who have passed. They’ll have to once chunks of the population drop off like IRL.

I was 13 when I started and now I’m 32. I’ll quit when the game dies and I’ll probably need some therapy when it happens. WoW has been my comfort for so long, it’ll be unfathomable when it’s gone.

You’ve been playing a game that’s not quite 20-years-old for 21 years?

I think WoW will carry on… legally or illegally (there’ll always be private servers but never the same as Blizz-owned ones)

Do you have the attention span of a squirrel? It’s not that long.

Same here - started 19 years ago in my 20s and although there were a couple of years here and there that I didnt play, i keep coming back to it. It has changed so much - specifically from a mainly guild experience where we would socialize both irl and in game to a solo game for me now (although still part of a guild). I love exploring each expansion and will likely keep playing in my spare time when I am in senior living home.

I started playing when I was 55 and I am now 74. Not much compels me to play like WoW does. I have had a few breaks here and there and I am not much of a collector or raider, but I always feel like there are things to do - ok ok, I pvp a lot. But darn it, it has always been a good way to vent over the years! I have met some awesome folks along the way - some even have visited at my home. I spose I will keep on going til I drop!

I started playing this game as a teenager and now my kids are teenagers. Been playing since 2005. WoW is the one game I can’t seem to part with. I hope they go big for the 20th anniversary.

Started in BC around 2006-07. Not sure I ever took a voluntary break. Had to when went to the army but I’ve stayed subscribed through every expansion. Likely will continue til I go. If it out last me my only regret will be missing further expansions. For now though 37 I got plenty of time.

I started wow in feb 2005. I’ve never announced that I ever quit the game though I’ve taken breaks from it over the years . Several multiple month long breaks and one for about a year but o come back to playing it.

I play other games of course and in fact enjoy those other games but wow’s been my go to game to wind down and just forget about the real world - just have fun … for almost 20 years now.

I was 31 when I first played I turned 50 four months ago.

(Still feel and act like I’m in my 30s though btw!)

Im loving all of these responses. Its good to know there are alot of people who relate. As well as those just beginning!

And yes you are right! lol I meant 19. I’ll correct it.

I was starting to think this way for a while, but burning out in Shadowlands was a bit eye-opening for me. I told myself it was just a temporary break to recharge and reset some expectations. But it was actually surprisingly hard to return. It wasn’t an automatic “falling into old habits” thing.

I think it’s probably better that I not get too attached to any idea that I am here for life. That sort of thinking makes me start to get a bit territorial. I think it’s just better all around if I keep believing that eventually I will move on to the other things, whether that’s true or not.
