Checks steam hardware survey for September 2021 and sees Linux sitting at 1.05% for all distros combined… Yeah, that’s probably going to be a no from Blizzard.

Windows 10 and 11 are fine. I’ve been on 11 for a while now and have had no real issues with it. It performs as well or better than 10 did for me, with the latest Nvidia drivers.

If your GPU is compatible with Vulkan Lutris It works very well.

WoW will only be native to GNU/Linux when they have Vulkan API.

OpenGL and Vulkan are the only options, Vulkan is most likely.

It’s not just about the graphics APIs, WoW is pretty heavy on the CPU side of things too. Also, their anticheat engine probably doesn’t like Linux.

I’ll never understand why so many privacy freaks think Linux is the be all end all for pcs, but just remember that if you have a CPU that’s made within the past 5-10 years, you have a micro operating system running on your CPU that you can’t touch or disable that does actually spy on you. It’s even running when your PC is powered off and will run off CMOS battery power or residual capactitor charge, if you pull the power supply plug. It logs every stroke you press and has access to every single part of your PC. Portions of network connections go through it before they even go to your OS and they can alter data going outbound as well.

Nobody actually knows what they actually do or if they sneak information into arbitrary outbound data streams, but they’re always watching… Moral of the story: If you game, just use Windows and get over it…

You all defending windows obviously aren’t on AMD cpus that were intentionally gimped by MS to boost Intel

with win 11 game mode it’s not really flopping its the best gaming platform out

That’s because Win11 is just Win10 with new fonts and icons. Don’t be distracted by the menu being in the middle of the screen (you can move it back to the left), the only changes in Win11 are cosmetic. Underneath however is a data gathering machine relaying everything you do back to Microsoft. Want widgets? Nope, gotta have a Microsoft account. There is a reason Win11 is a free upgrade - they’re selling your data. They didn’t engineer this OS out of the kindness of their hearts.

And AMD users can see as much as a 20% loss in performance on Win11 because MS spent all it’s time tweaking the kernel for Intel hardware.

The same people who enjoy Win11 usually also use Chrome as their browser because they are either ignorant of, or don’t care that everything they do online is recorded, packaged, and sold.

Linux is the way to go these days if you don’t want big brother looking over your shoulder 24/7. And it can run Warcraft and others like FFXIV via Wine. A native client would be lovely however.

Linux users are like vegans. They can never shut up about it and assume everyone else should do it.

Not all of them

I use Linux too and it’s easily resolved

There’s a software called Lutrix that can install wow on any Linux distro

He just refuses to do it because it takes effort to do all the installation

I like a good prime rib as much as the next gal and I will never shut up that I think everyone else should enjoy some too.

More likely he just wants to remove the performance loses associated with using a thunk library like Wine to emulate windows. We all want our games to run as fast as possible. Surely that’s not a bad thing is it?

I think you should learn how computers work, cuz that definitely ain’t it.

i don’t feel it’s time for that at all. they should spend dev time on important things instead

Well I take that back after reading what Clark posted about it. I will have to read up on this more later but it is interesting and pretty nasty from what I have read so far. Thanks Clark.

Overwriting all my forum history because of stalkers harassing on multiple platforms. Blizzard won’t let us delete history to avoid targeted harassment.

I mean literally the conversations I’ve had with friends in game dev all basically end like this for linux targeting:

Basically the binary instability of linux in the userspace makes it a royal pain… so they don’t they just let proton do the heavy lift and then don’t support it officially so they don’t have to test.
