3 or 4 is fine with me, I don’t mind starting over. I probably will anyways tbh but I understand why others wouldn’t want too.
My “objective” is to enjoy myself in limitless pvp after phase 6. Again, I don’t see your point.
Option 2 and 3 sound pretty awful tbh. I think if you’re looking to main change its not bad but I’m sure most would prefer to play what they put time and effort into and not start over.
I honestly like the idea of a blend between the 2nd/3rd option in which you get to have a single character automatically leveled up to 58 so you can experience Outland from day one of launch without any massive overpowering going on gear/gold wise. However all other chars you makes will start at level 1 as normal.
Well maybe pointing out the bleeding obvious, TBC would make this no longer classic WoW. For a start you shouldn’t have been in a mad rush to get to 60 in a week and enjoy it more. If you are after more end-game content, just go the normal retail version and level up another toon and re-do every possible expansion. Quite happy here to leave classic how it is.
Also arenas is a very small aspect of TBC.
arenas are like half of the game in tbc unless you are purely a pve player
TL;DR at the bottom.
The survey is interesting and allows us to assume a few facts. Obviously, none of these can be 100% confirmed, but the survey does indicate the direction they are contemplating.
Assumed fact #1: TBC is what the future holds. Classic+ is not.
This one is sort of obvious.
Assumed fact #2: “Classic” in the sense of a level 60 capped, vanilla-only experience will live on.
All of the options presented in the survey allowed maintained separate servers for level 60 only. There was no option to just move on to TBC and leave Vanilla in the past.
Assumed fact #3: There will not be character copies.
None of the options allowed for the copying of a character so you can have your cake and eat it, too. Some options allowed you to continue with your current character in TBC at the expense of waving goodbye to Vanilla while other options just force you to roll a new toon altogether.
With that in mind, I wanted to take a look at each of the options individually.
Continue playing my current Classic character on my existing server as it progresses to the Burning Crusade expansion, with the option to transfer to a Classic server that will never progress past level 60.
This seems like a bad idea simply because it means there will have to be a final decision day for all toons. Once a server progresses to being a TBC server, the transfer of toons to Level 60-capped servers will need to end, otherwise there would be potential for abuse. What if someone was unable to play the game for awhile? Family emergencies, deployment, career challengers, etc could all lead to someone having to suspend their WoW activities for a prolonged period. When they come back, they find that their level 60 toon is on a TBC server with no path back to Vanilla.
Continue playing my current Classic character on my existing server that will never progress past level 60, with the option to transfer to a Burning Crusade server.
This seems much better than the first option as it solves the problem mentioned above.
Also, while I’m not always a fan of paid transactions, I do recognize that Blizz is a for-profit company and their continued success ensures the servers keep running. This option gives them an opportunity at a revenue stream. Maybe transfers are free for a limited period of time, but after that, there is a small fee.
Aside from people that just miss the boat during the free period, Blizz would also make money off of alts. I know I wouldn’t transfer all my toons right away. I’d want to keep one foot in Classic Vanilla in case TBC flops or my guild just wants to go back.
Start a brand new character from Level 1 on a new Burning Crusade server.
This seems like a bad idea for the health of TBC. Forcing people to re-level to 60 would just cause many players to quit. Additionally, many of the guilds that exist today have recruited players that leveled at different paces. Most people reading this are probably raiding with someone that took 2-3 weeks to hit level 60 and someone else that took 10-12 weeks. That sort of delay in being able to experience the new content together could fracture some guild communities and I feel guild communities are one of the most important parts of Classic.
Additionally, character progression is always at the heart of an MMO. Wiping out all progression just…feels bad.
That said, it likely wouldn’t be as bad as our first grind to 60. I would assume Classic TBC will follow the same formula as Classic in that we level with the last patch of the expansion. There was a patch in TBC (2.3?) that greatly increased leveling speed by decreasing the amount of xp needed for levels 1-60, increased the amount of xp rewarded by quests, and revamped a few empty areas (I believe this is when Mudsprocket was added to Dustwallow Marsh as a quest hub).
I leveled an alt way back when those changes went into effect and it was much more efficient that before.
Start a brand new character from level 58 on a new Burning Crusade server.
I’ll get some hate for this, but I think this is a better option that fresh level 1s. I don’t think either of these options are great due to the destruction of any Classic Vanilla character progression, but at least this option reduces the potential to fracture guilds.
TL;DR: I’m excited for TBC. I don’t think any of the options Blizzard presented is without flaw, but I don’t think a flawless solution exists. Of the options they presented, I think that opening new TBC servers to allow players the option to transfer existing Classic Vanilla characters to them is the best option.
If I could play mad scientist and combine two of the options, I would add that all new characters started on the TBC servers would start at level 58.
In what universe does blizzard not create tbc classic? Barring the apocalypse, we will get it.
Hell we wouldn’t even have classic if we had not beat them over the head with the idea for LITERALLY YEARS.
We have Classic because Blizzard’s lawyers demanded it for IP protection. Anyone who thinks it’s about the players is delusional.
Did you read the options? 1. and 2. have an option just for you and one for the rest of us.
Glinda pretty much nails it. They need these just to prevent the pservers.
It’s time to start seriously talking about what the horde BG queues will be like when blood elves are introduced. Welcome to 3 - 4 hour AV waits.
TBC without manual flying sounds awesome to me. I’d be up for that.
This. I thought it was pretty obvious to everyone. Still nice that lawyers did something that brought enjoyment to people.
