It really doesn’t make sense that a shaman can’t wield a sword, or a mage can’t use a mace. There is no reason a warlock would be able to lug around a giant staff as a stat stick but not a polearm or a two handed sword. Getting rid of weapon restrictions would have little to no impact on game play and would open up a huge degree of variety in terms of transmog options.
Or just lift the transmog restrictions.
There must be a good reason why weapons don’t switch primary stats depending on specs (i.e. we still have AGI polearms, STR polearms, INT swords, AGI/STR swords, etc.). I can’t imagine it’s efficient to make multiple versions of a specific weapon type.
Not a horrid idea. You’d still have bias toward particular weapon types based on stats, ability requirements, etc, but if you REALLY want to be a Mage wielding a two-handed axe, go nuts my guy.
Yeah, I think that essentially allows you to have your cake an eat it too. People wont all be rolling on the same gear, and will naturally be funnel it more “ideal” weapons for their spec. But you can also transmog roll on stuff you like for the appearance.
I can see why some restrictions exist, for animations, but at the same time swords <> daggers should be a thing, it makes sense, most 1h swords work as good or better as thrusting swords (rapiers to daggers, especially, would be great for most animations)
(I really just want to be able to use a rapier as other rogue specs)
This brings to mind something said to us warriors years ago by a Mr. Greg Street, aka Ghostcrawler.
“Just because you can equip something doesn’t mean you should be effective with it.”
We can equip everything and yet none of it has stats that we can use. That should apply the same way for other classes. Be able to equip those massive 2-handers but you wouldn’t want to because you can’t be effective with them.
Correct me if I’m wrong here but don’t they need to make adjustments when they introduce multiple weapon types (e.g 2h polearm vs 2 fist weapons for monk)?
I think I’d find it pretty cool to be able to smack things down with a wand and my DK abilities.
Unless that changed recently most monk abilities treat their weapons as stat sticks, like casters (maybe it’s different for WW?)
They could easily loosen the transmog restrictions to what Warriors enjoy. Take that shaman as your example. It can use maces and axes, but not swords. Let the same rules apply that 1-h swords = 1-h maces = 1-h axes and take away the restriction. The item that shaman equipped is still a mace or an axe, but can be transmogged into a sword.
The amount of REEEEEE! From people who don’t actually want any RPG in their MMORPG would probably melt the icecaps.
And to be frank the entire “rolling against other people” is such a weak argument anyway these days. It literally ONLY applies for raids. Not questing, not dungeons, not world events, etc.
wands
Because 2handers have one enchantment less and attack slower (but stronger) using 1h is a minor advantage
To make up for this there is a tiny buff given to 2h wielded.
It’s like 2%.
Yeah! We don’t need any of that icky RPG logic in this RPG!
It’s literally the current year, Blizzard! Anything can be anything!
I agree. But only because it will finally acknowledge the truth that everything is a Hunter weapon.
Termpers are already stretched with gear looting. Can you imagine if every player in the raid was rolling need on every drop?
At the very least more classes need to get access to warglaives as we’ve had warglaives that for some reason got Strength on them yet DH don’t use that stat. Warriors not being able to use wands makes sense, they don’t use magic, but a warrior that’s basically a weapon master not being able to use warglaives is crazy
what’s the RPG logic for why a mage or warlock can carry around a 2h sword as a stat stick? Why can’t an elemental shaman carry a 2h sword or polearm when they can already carry a staff, 2h axe or 2h mace?
It’s not roleplaying, it’s a pointless restriction for 20 years ago that doesn’t make sense in the modern game.
Sure, let’s just throw any semblance of fantasy tropes out the window because “I want what I want”.
This forum is just filled with Veruca Salts.
