1 - It only casts abilities relevant to your form. Boomkin should not be casting heals or a freaking rake. It’s just completely stupid to have a boomkin casting a melee feral ability. If we want heals for some reason, we will go caster form and use convoke. Stop the insanity.
I’m super glad they made it 16 again and consistency with the big hitters is nice for pvp. Of course if rng was on your side the ridiculous one shot was nice but if you got no bites for instance, it seemed like a wasted cd.
Can anyone shed light on boomy convoke. How did it perform in pvp? I’d love to be able to use it as a burst cd but I fear it’ll just cleave everyone in range. With that said, how “smart” is it? Will it re-dot those that already have them? Will it break cc? Does it not favor your current target and does it cast heals even if you don’t have a friendly targeted? Curious if anyone can shed some light on this because currently in feral, I’m fairly certain it only casts damaging spells from what I’ve seen of Snupy’s videos unless you’re not in melee and have friendlies targeted. I’d hope the target dictates boomy as well because I’d hate to press it for a burst option and have it heal
I’m really interested to know as well as I’m still deciding between Kyrian or Night Fae as a Boomy with a PvP focus. Both covenants appeal to me.
I guess the blue post did say the number of Starsurges cast in Convoke will have ‘much less variance than before’…so sounds like you’ll get a guaranteed number at least for some burst - I’d like to think at least 2 per cast.
Haven’t seen anything definitive to your questions online…pretty hard I guess since it keeps changing. I did watch a video from Supatease who insinuated the targeting wasn’t that smart…eg dmg spells were not always aimed at his target and would also hit pets! That would suck if it stays like that…he strongly recommended Kyrian for that reason as the covenant ability gives you a 15% dmg increase for 10 seconds every minute and it’s instant cast…lining up perfectly with Solar Beam.
Convoke looks cool and I think the idea is pretty neat though and if they made the spell work optimally it could be a really strong ability with strong burst. I don’t have beta so guess will just have to wait and see till I can try it for myself next week and see if Blizz make any further changes.
it looks like it pretty consistently gets 4 starsurges. rarely it can cast either 3 or 5 star surges. for the most part, when at range it looks to pretty consistently cast 10-11 dps spells (6 wrath/moonfires, 1 starfall and 4starsurges) it pretty consistently was casting 5-6 heals. the heals were mostly regrowth and 1 or 2 rejuvs. occasionally it would cast a wildgrowth or a swiftmend. it also casts full moon on occasion. i want to say full moons came about 15-20% of the time.
if no moonfires were active it seemed to want to replace wraths with moonfire. if everything has an active moonfire it doesn’t seem to cast it. same with starfall. if you have one active it doesn’t cast it. the starfall can be replaced by a dps or heal spell. when in melee range it seemed to replace 2 heals with a melee ability (rake or thrash mostly).
That’s actually very insightful, and somewhat disappointing. I really wish it didn’t cast heals at all unless friendly people were targeted or I was los of all enemies.
Yeah but I just don’t wanna go kyrian. Boring convoke seems super fun.
4 starsurges in 4 seconds is pretty big…especially if you cast your own 2-3 starsurges either before or after for 7 or so starsurges in a row! In your testing did you work out whether the Starsurges and other spells get empowered by eclipse mastery?
10-11 dps spells and 5-6 healing spells also seems a good balance for a damage & healing burst all in one. And it’s nice that it recognises if enemies already have dots or starfall on.
Big question for me to determine it’s viability…how was the targeting, did the starsurges and other spells appear to mainly focus on your target or did it just hit anything in range randomly?
This is my primary concern as well however there’s a saving grace, at least in my eyes. So the only spells that can be casted behind you are moon/sunfire. This leads me to believe that if you position correctly with your target in front of you and place your back to the rest of the team (or seclude them behind a pillar or something) then you could probably get it to mostly hit the target. It may just require being cognizant of your surroundings. I’m okay with that I suppose. So long as the button is worth pressing as a burst option.
The reason it was nerfed to 12 spells to begin with, was because it was too good for resto. It’s about making the ability good for non resto specs, without buffing resto (who is already in a good place, covenant wise)
I think Convoke is a nice ability and the randomness is what will keep it from being a flat out beast in every scenario…
I do wish that any other covenant would be any fun or viable. I don’t like Kyrian solo, Ravenous Frenzy is OK, but just a haste CD, and Adaptive Swarm just doesn’t seem strong enough right now for DPS.
