It’s time Blizzard to increase the cap for the quest log. There couldn’t possibly be a reason for this.
I don’t know, that would require changing one, maybe two whole integers.
I think they had to go fix a problem we didn’t have first, maybe this QoL change will happen in 10.0
i think they dont want you to pick up multiple hubs at once and then bot the entire zone in one prepathed route.
I bet you this is like the bag thing where they had no idea how to increase it for the longest time lmao. They really need to fork WoW and develop a new engine.
Let me guess, increasing the quest log limit would mess up the backpack code … somehow.
Edit: Jinx. (By that I mean I didn’t read the whole thread before responding.)
I’m not sure it makes much sense to have a cap at all. Obviously I’m not a dev, but I can’t imagine quests taking up much space… we know that quest IDs (like 58267) fit comfortably within the limits of an integer, so in theory raising the cap would have similar storage implications as adding a larger equippable bag, which they’ve done numerous time with no issue.
Its probably gonna cost a raid tier
Yeah baby! Bye, quest cap
While we’re here, bye character cap!
I believe it was explained at one point because accepting a quest can change npc locations (in the zone you’re in or elsewhere depending on the quest), drops from mobs that are then flagged to drop them etc.
Accepting too many quests causes some kind of instability with the server as exceptions pile up or something.
I dunno I’m unfortunately not a tech guy.
Just. Complete the quests.
The greatest friction is probably data base issues. I mean after what ever group think “integrity of the play experience” reason they might have whipped themselves into a frenzy over.
But at this point things are so on rails it can be challenge to use up all the spots.
Hmmm… interesting thought.
Maybe. Or maybe Blizz thinks it would be too confusing.
Case in point for a long time Hearthstone was limited to 9 deck slots and they refused to add more because “it would confuse players”
Players: “we want a higher quest log cap”
Blizzard: “You think you do, but you don’t”
This is one of those things where I don’t think it’d be a big deal if Blizz were to concede and raise / remove the cap…
BUT
I also just see zero reason it should be necessary. Normal people do not pick up and hold on to 25 quests they’re not actually working on. Normal people pick up quests and do them right away. Maybe like 1 or 2 exceptions at a time for things like raid lockout quests that are time gated.
Idk. Maybe a better solution would be to have a separate tab / log for long-term quests, so they don’t disrupt your standard questing if you decide to grab every multi-week quest you can find on a brand new alt or something.
I would even be for separate quest logs for each expansion.
in classic, vanilla, pre-cataclysm etc there was ‘that one point’ where you had all the Green Hills of STV quests, plus the Arathi quests and the Mastery quests. maybe some Tanaris quests too. In addition to the badlands quest you never actually did and some ZF/Tanaris stuff.
the Green Hills is the big block of quests, really. it’s 5 quests at once, plus 3 hunting mastery quests is a third of the quest log.
You do know we are playing on the fourth engine of the game, right?
The engine isn’t the issue.
I think its more that it a big non-issue and no one cares to change it.
lol the engine is really bad…4th iteration maybe, but it simply isn’t as capable as something like the unreal engine
