Yes it did. There was a Premium subscription to remove ads like what Overwolf is doing with the CurseForge app.

If they were more responsible with their ads I’d subscribe in a heartbeat, because money is not an issue for me and I subscribe to the things I like.

I don’t subscribe to Wowhead out of principle, because they use some of the worst ad providers on the internet as leverage to try to force users into a subscription. If they were more responsible with their ads I’d subscribe in a heartbeat, because money is not an issue for me and I subscribe to the things I like.

I get some rather… “raunchy” advertisements sometimes on wowhead… lol

WoWMatrix was pretty shady though, I don’t blame them for that. They were doing things like hosting addons against the will of addon authors and even changing authorship in readme’s and whatnot. Just bad juju all around.

Because even if I can afford to subscribe plenty of others can’t. If I subscribe then I’m actively supporting their choice of dogcrap ad providers, which others will then have to live with.

I used to use a SMS program back in like 2011 called GoSMS, I didn’t have a cellphone from 2012 till 2018 and when I got a cell again my first thought was “Hey, I’ll install GoSMS” immediately started getting robocalled endlessly daily and having ads popup on my phone
I removed it but I was already “on the list” So I paid $15 to change my number and now? No ads, no robocalls RIP to whoever gets my old number

Moral of the story, I don’t download ad apps anymore

However, all evidence so far has been that they are the best option for the addon developers. They get paid significantly more with them than any other resource, which is why they are still keeping their addons there.

They have better tools than other host sites and more people know Curse than any other site. That’s more a part of it than the whole one McDonald’s sandwich they can buy with what most addon creators make.

I don’t answer my phone unless I know you and have your number saved in my phone OR I’m expecting a call. If someone calls right now I’ll just look at the phone, decline it and block the number, I’m so glad it only takes like 2 button presses these days to block a number lol
