Ran the same M+ dungeon 6 times in a row, trying to gear my tank. All timed. In the +2-+4 range. I got 1 drop. There were 10 possible upgrades for me out of the loot table. The drop was 1 of the 3 pieces that were not an upgrade.
So for investing just shy of 3 hours into 6 Dungeon Clears. I got a little anima. A little valor. And an item to disenchant. I want to level my alts, but this, plus legendary soul ash grind, make it so unappealing.
3 hours is about the time it takes for most farm groups to clear heroic(give or take) You can do heroic and not get an item you want, as well. The only difference is, with Mythic Plus, you can keep trying so long as you can find keys for the dungeon.
I 100% agree on alt thing, I ran m+ on 5 different characters in BFA. This expansion, just my main, burned out after getting KSM, quit m+. Did few runs here and there to help people with vault, but that’s about it.
Just the thought of farming on alts makes me feel uneasy.
To target a item from a M+ loot table, assuming you time the key. Lets say there are 12 items total on that dungeon’s loot table for you.
2/5 People will get a piece of loot in that chest at the end of the run.
40% chance to see an item.
Now I am not going to factor in that some items have a higher or lower % chance than others to drop. I am keeping them all having the same chance.
1/12 chance that the item is the one you want. 8.3% chance the item you are targeting is the one that drops.
So so 40% chance at an 8.3% chance. That ends up being a 3.3% chance at an item, given that all items have an equal chance at dropping. That seems more like mount farming than targeting an upgrade.
And that doesnt mean out of 100 runs you will get the item 3 times. That means every time, you time the key, you have a 3.3% chance.
I did run my M0 world tour. Got some pieces. Ran Raid finder. Ran some bosses on normal. Made a little progress.
My point is that, once you get just past that M0 level… you hit the slow wall so hard. Gearing up for +10 or better keys and heroic raiding becomes a huge barrier. Even if you are pushing the levels to get there. Tanking +5-6 keys at 188i kind of thing. You are still at that wall.
Gearing in SL is bad.
The dev team knows gearing in SL is bad.
Easy fix - Increase drop rates, or add a badge vendor
Bad fix - Add a convoluted system, named after successful systems the players wanted back, that does not fix drop rates.
Blizzard “LeTs Do ThE bAd FiX!”
TLDR
Just do PVP to 1800.
Should take a weekend of RBG Pugs.
You now have the same Ilvl gear of weeks of M+ grinding without the RNG, worrying about timing, rIO, or any of the BS that is ruining modern WoW.
I wasnt targeting the Trinket or a weapon. I was targeting 10 possible upgrades. I have two mains that are decently geared at this point for what I like to do. Heroic raiding and 10-15keys.
I just wish you could gear up a little easier. You hit gear walls, where no matter what, you arent timing +10s or Doing Heroic Nathria at 195i. You just have to keep slogging away with loot coming in at a trickle.
I dont really enjoy PvP, but I will craft my ret legendary this coming week and see what I can do in there at 190i in RBG PuGs. Or if I even get invited.
We arent talking about classic. We are talking about Shadowlands. In Vanilla, very few people had 2 or 3 main characters. Leveling was a much slower process then. Gearing was slow as well. Grouping was slower.
Gear also lasted longer. You wore your .5 dungeon tier for a long time. Till you replaced it with Molten Core Gear. The gear ladder was completely different. Once you got your upgrade at Max level, you had that for awhile. I was Raiding AQ40, with a mix of MC and BWL gear. My hunter used his Rhok’ bow into AQ 40 without issue.
Comparing the gear ladder of then to now is silly.
Yep. Thats the wall Im at. Weapons, Rings, Neck, Cloak, Trinkets. Also the covenant campaign gear does not have ideal stats for each spec. But its good enough.
How so? They tried Legion/ BFA. They tried giving players more rewards at a faster pace. They even tried adding the ability for items to wf/ tf to keep lower end content more relevant.
Players complained. Many even specifically mentioned classic style gearing that was simpler and had meaning.
“Simpler and meaningful” is code for less loot dropped and we had it for longer.
