After so many years of WoW, the prophetic wow-killer never came.
No MMO has come close to WoW’s peak and none have even beat WoW’s current subscription number.
But now there are 2 WOWs! It didn’t die, it multiplied.

You don’t know if any of that is true, FF14 just recently said they where at their highest subs ever and WoW was trending down last time it was reported, seems like they should of crossed at some point.
wow has been trending down for like 10 years.
Time to start movin’ on up!
WoW is about to trend up exponentially for about 2-3 months.
Classic will be a huge boost in subs, but there’ll be a drop in server pop like 3 months in, and then again when the final content gate is opened and cleared.
FFXIV is at its high on its third expac, which is barely touching the surface of 1 mil (its all time high number apparently). Take into account how many millions were subbed at WoW’s peak, and how many stay subbed during its third expansion which many heralded as the worst expansion until WoD came around and snatched that title and wig.
I wouldn’t count it a fair race with two MMOs that are very different stages in their life that perform differently.
The only WoW-killer possible is WoW.
Back off, lady!
Huh? Wow killed itself. Retail is dead and classic will be fun for a few months then blizz will close it down to make another hearthstone money maker. Cant blame them honestly.
Its electrifying!
FF14 has been getting better and better.
There were a couple of throwback raid bosses (Kefka FF6, Agrias and Thunderlord FFT) and the “Warriors of Darkness” storyline for the upcoming expac seems like it’ll be interesting.
No clue why I’ve never been able to play past its demo state…
FFXIV’s early game is notoriously inferior to most of the rest of the game. The first time I tried the game, I quit after like 20 minutes because you almost literally spend the first twenty minutes of the game doing adventurer’s guild paperwork.
It gets pretty good for Heavensward, though.
The MSQ is unbearable and the gameplay feels painfully slow in comparison to WoW. I finished the first MSQ, realized I had another 100+ quests before I could move on to the current expansion, and quit right there. The leveling experience in retail WoW sucks, but at least you have options on how to tackle it.
Until August 26th, 2019.
Subs will go up. If they are smart they will do patch current and then patch classic etc and keep people busy in either game. Most people will go back and forth
That won’t hold .
8.2 was pretty good. If 8.3 is as good those who play classic will play that once they hit 60 and cleared the current patch raids. Then after 8.3 they can release phase 2 classic and go from there
I said the same thing 10 years ago on a " is going to kill WoW" thread.
It takes some people a while to catch on.
To the East side, to a deluxe apartment in the sky?
There are a few games with more players than retail wow. FF14 and ESO right now. If blizz gets its act together that will change, but right now the numbers are definitely not going a good direction for the retail wow side.
