Both offer tiers
Both offer challenges
Both offer rewards at the end
Both offer upgrades for Brann, the other the box
Both offer gear in some form, devles give gear, torghast gave mats to make your legendary
But the community is in love with devles, maybe when the rest of the tiers unlock we’ll probably get the same hate and demand nerfs/remove it
It’s because you’re in the honeymoon phase with devles
When the rest of the tiers unlock and the mobs and bosses actually start hurting you, you’ll be making that thread day one of season 1 demanding nerfs and hate this feature
Delves have slightly more to them than Torghast did, but the big issue with Torghast was tying required power progression mechanics to it. Delves have power progression but it’s a separate pillar that you don’t need to engage with at all.
The main problem with Torghast is it was pretty much mandatory if you were even remotely serious about making progression in Mythic+ or Raids. And if you fell behind for any reason you were well and truly up the creek without a paddle.
As Ion said during the announcement for Delves. It’s supposed to be an alternative if group content isn’t your cup of tea. So high end players will not feel compelled to do them if they don’t want to.
Torghast was really fun on beta. Then they ripped out the OP and ridiculous builds you could make with random powers, added in legendary progression, and then never iterated on it so you were running very samey things the entire time.
Delves are shorter, more diverse, and less necessary.
I still think Torghast had potential, like FFXIV’s deep dungeon thing with roguelike elements. However, Blizzard pivoted away from that direction and left us with a terrible abandoned feature that we were then paying to play for months.
Well, coming from also playing ESO, the public dungeons over there which equates to the (delves) in World of Warcraft were fun to do. Something to hop in and do when you felt like it. Torghast, though started off in beta to be fun because you could get insane powers and blast the living crap out of stuff, isn’t what we started out with in retail.
Delves were designed as in endgame pillar choice for solo players to acquire a gearing alternative path for progression purposes.
It’s clear and intent that this system was designed for that purpose.
Torghast wasn’t designed and wasn’t an endgame progression path for solo players to acquire up to heroic quality raid gear for their characters.
I played virtually every Delve thus far and the atmosphere, the way it feels, with Bran at your side, it feels nothing like Torghast does or did to me, not even remotely close.
One is definitely not like the other, not in design choice, not in how it feels when I play it, not the rewards, but if you want to believe that or think that, more power to you, doesn’t feel that way for me.
They just feel like scenarios to me, really not that interesting.
As far as I know, they are not mandatory like Choreghast was for legendaries. So if this is content that just isn’t designed “for me”, then that’s fine. You guys can enjoy yourselves, but for the most part I intend to skip.
I disagree… One of the big reasons some people hated Torghast was because it was tied to progression - we were forced to do it. It was also quite repetitive and felt like a time sink imo.
Delves feel more like dungeons. They have more personality and, more importantly, they’re optional. If you get tired of doing them, you don’t have to. I don’t think the player base is going to dislike them in the long term.
but torghast was lame because it changed the playstyle too much. overpoweredness that you cant see anywhere else in the game… boring. out of place. out of touch.
