No, because the books impact upon the story of WoW. You dont have to read the books, but the lore from the books matter a number of times. Such as Elegy and A Good War have been referenced in BFA a number of times.
Theres no excuse other than not reading a free book.
They have it where it matters: In the actual game. Look, I get it, you’re knowledgeable and you’ve actually read the abominations ‘lore books’ but the average player has zero concern for them whatsoever. They mean nothing. They exist to pardon in game blunders or provide necessary backstory for blunders. It’s a little sad that you think NPC characterization even means anything beyond the infrequent flavor NPC.
They hired a writer from outside their company to fix up the Alliance and she turned out to be terrible too. It is absolutely the elephant in the room when you mention the devs being allergic to writing anything for the Alliance. Maybe try hiring some people that actually like the faction? I don’t know. At this point I’m convinced the devs simply want us to all play Horde even if they have to pretty much beg people to pay for a race swap.
Hey, some of them are good. Before the Storm…not in the slightest.
Thats not true, because theyve driven plot lines between expansions and gone deeper into the lore about more important aspects of the WoW universe.
Heck, they just referenced the alignment chart from Chronicles during the Shadowlands presentation.

I mean, if I dont understand the character…why would I care?
You see thats not the point. If you are paying a sub to play a game, you expect things to be fairly equal between the factions in-game. If one faction has the majority of the story in-game, and the other faction has the majority of their story out of game, then if you are paying for Alliance then you are clearly not getting your moneys worth.
It also would likely impact faction development in-game, as the developers and writers now have no real interest in the Alliance faction themselves, that’s now someone elses problem, being primarily concerned with the Horde story and identity.
These previously existed to simply justify what happened behind the scenes. Let me refresh your memory, right after Wrath: Taurens magically became paladins and priests. A handful of paragraphs of ‘lore’ was used to justify this. No one blinked. This is how WoW has operated. They’ve only expanded the paragraphs. This story exists of Rule of Cool alone.
The average player barely even glances at them. The alignment chart was a latter-developed lore figment that they’d naturally build upon and even then you’ll never find that alignment chart in game and if you did you’d probably want to ask more questions that’d go unanswered.
You can understand them by watching them act in game. We do this frequently. The Alliance character just act like idiots more often than the Horde ones and if not that, they just accomplish nothing and look like fools who don’t realize they’re actually fighting a war. It’s a joke faction. The discrepancy is so visible that more and more people are noticing it thus the increase in these threads.
Not really, no. And that is a weakness of Blizzard game writing.
And yet, they win in the end and Horde gets pummeled into the dirt again to follow this path of retribution and rebuilding…until the lever of faction war gets pulled again.
i have bfa but dont play it very much. and i dont think having the alliance story being explained in a book instead of in game, is a good idea. its ruining the game to be that dismissive and uninvolved in an entire faction of a two faction game.
Do you, though? Cause I can provide more inconvenient information that you won’t like if you think poorly-written ‘lore’ should be paid attention by anyone.
Not you. Thankfully.
The game writing has more pull than the book writing. If you’re looking for top-tier fantasy writing, you should be nowhere near a WoW book.
Oh? That’s the cycle? You ‘win’ by objectively losing more? Hey. If you’re happy with it. Wait, where are all your players going again?

Isnt Rise of The Horde and Arthas both written before Cata?
Not you either. The average player isnt on these forums, because they dont care.
Blizzard writing just sucks. The game story barely has pull as it is.
Im not happy with it, Im just indifferent about repeating expansion but done worse.
Yes. The story sucks. It sucks so much it can’t be salvaged. We should all just go play Horde. It’s what the devs want. You can get away with anything on this team.
What victory? Oh. The ‘official’ one. Yeah. That means a lot. I’m sure they’ll take all the time in the world to explain how groundbreaking that victory was in the menagerie of Alliance lore books.
The warchief thing isn’t even a big deal. It was a weakness that’s been corrected. Don’t you people get it? The Horde has been fixed. It’s all smooth sailing from here unless Blizzard decides to write the Alliance as though it weren’t a joke but even then the Horde could just cry victim and we’d be back to square one.
