Because who likes to start their honor grind as a caster or healer getting 2 shot by a DK, and I know who’s been doing that. I know them, it’s me.
But seriously, Resil is bad mechanic that is hardly suited for a casual player doing a couple BGs a week, yeah I don’t think they’ll hit the 200-300+ Resil threshold oft for premades and people who don’t like having a wet noodle for their HP bar.

They should have had gear based matchmaking or something, but oh well. 10 years too late for Wrath devs to do something about it.

They can add half or full pvp scaling, reduce resil effectiveness or any number of fixes.
There’s dozens of potential solutions and Blizzard chooses none of them
If you’re a casual player, maybe freeze your xp at 79, get the 8-piece crafted blue PvP set and have fun BGing.
Asking to wreck gear progression so casuals don’t get blown up at 80 is silly.

I haven’t played much Cataclysm and beyond, but did they never change how it worked from resilience? I feel like they likely did implement some solution already.
Edit: Oh right, don’t they just give you full pvp gear for free? I guess that is one way to do it.
I don’t agree that we should remove progression from the pvp system, I enjoy it.
I do think we should have a gear based matchmaking system. Not super hardcore but I do pvp a bit just about every day and it isn’t fun for me to be grouped with or against casual players in fresh boosted gear and 6k hp. Whichever team has these guys is gonna lose.

It’s the only stat that separates pvp from pve gear, without it you can just wear your tier sets in arenas.

I agree with you, but if it makes you feel any better, Retail still hasn’t figured it out. As a fresh player the TTK is appalling. I used to PvP a toooooon back in the day but I had slowly been losing interest over the years. I gave Shadowlands PvP a go in the first two weeks, it was awful, and so I quit. I haven’t played a PvP match since.
If you’re willing to spend the time on PvP and slog through getting your face smashed in until you can lose your way to being on an equal playing field with respect to gear, you can actually have a lot of fun in WoW PvP. Testing your skill against other players is fantastic, I have so many great memories!
It’s just really hard to justify that process though, and it’s why PvP has remained a moderately niche activity for the last 18 years.

You do realize there are many faction vendors that sale blue gear with resilience that allow you to begin your pvp grind.

Wotlk understood this and accommodated by adding a crafted blue set at level 78.
So now the starter gear is quite cheap to make and does not require reputation farms.
Resil is fine. No excuses.

I actually agree, I do not like Resilience as a stat by itself. It is like playing rock paper scissors, and resilience is mushrooms or I-WIN-ALL.
At least with armor, spells can still penetrate but youll be at an advantage over melee.
With stam, stam is always the pvp stat is most games as that gives a buffer for how many hits you take.
Then you have spell resistance which is the opposite of armor.
Lazy game design is adding resilience to make players feel their gear progression has an impact, otherwise some mage from vanilla is going to complain “hey why does my warlord set have all this stamina when melee cant even touch me, im just going to use pve gear for MAXIMUM DAMAGE OUTPUT WEEEEEEEEEE.”
On the flipside, you had players like yourself OP, who are the exact reason why resilience was added in the first place. “omg rogue 2 shot my cloth azz, no fair, pls fix blizz”
Another thing about resil vs stamina, is healing effects are way greater if you have dmg reduction vs stamina. Since the more stamina you have, the less heals will have an impact, vs having a bunch of resil and players chipping away at your low HP like a rock while a priest heals you to full health in one spell. You can suvive 1v5 with resilience a lot easier than 1v5 with purely stamina.
Yea dmg reduction to all sources stat is a trash mechanic that should of never been in game. Instead they should of just gave healers dmg reduction talents in their spec so they dont get 2 shotted, but also not break the game and make Heal 2 Win every pvp encounter due to resilience being in the game.

and it’s absolute trash. you need at least 350 resil to not get 1-2 shot by melee. speaking of which, ever since boosties and DKs got introduced, it’s nothing but a mongo unstoppable melee fest: 2/3rds the team in AV is almost always DKs and ret palis atm. boring! being a caster in this meta is pretty hellish, especially starting from nothing. wet noodle indead.
The “meta” isnt balanced around level 70. You’ll see casters gain power at 80. Dont base your evaluation of WOTLK on a level 70 prepatch in AV.

ya…melee get stronger too, especially with armor pen which imo should be nerfed in pvp. it makes resil useless more and more as the expac goes on.
But you do even more damage to people without resilience. Damage just gets really high which makes things more fun. One of the main problems I have with modern WoW pvp is that the time to kill people is waaaay too long.
