Items become trash so fast, what is the point?

Motivation with this game is going down and down. Look what happened to Hearth of Azeroth and many nice items. You work months to get or improve them, and then they simply are discarded. I don’t do difficult content because I am not an ---- to get difficult items just to throw them to trash some months later.

Quit MMOs then. That’s how they work.
You play the patch, not the game.

Edit: Quit WoW then, as seemingly other MMOs do have a more horizontal progression path. But WoW is like this.

My personal recommendation, to you in particular, is to only play the very first and the very last patch of any expansion if you want to enjoy your gear a little longer.
That’s how I’ve been rolling lately.

I do agree that past items of great importance should remain important. Even the Artifacts should have somehow remained but up gradable and interchangeable for “new looks” but that requires an art team working on art.

The one item I can say that makes no sense that is useless is the heart of Azeroth. Yes when we went to shadow lands it did make sense because we got disconnected from our world. We are back and that neck should be fully awake alert and powerful again as we fed it more blood then am Army medical field during WW2

I haven’t played many, but all of them worked similarly.

Granted, most would have SOME items be relevant for a long time, but those were the exceptions.

That said, I do agree with you that Blizzard greatly disrespects players’ time, and the item issue is just one example of that.

The point of doing challenging content is to do the challenging content (and have fun with your friends while doing it).

Not to get stuff. The stuff you get is a tool, not a goal.

(That said, the tiers cycle way too quickly and it would be nice to have stuff last a while. But then the LFR crowd complains “I’m bored” so Blizzard feels pressured to rush out tier after tier as quickly as possible. It’s definitely a problem.)

Good riddance.

Items come in items come out, but trasmogs are forever.

So should new players have to grind decade old content for years to catch up to current players?

Yea, I’m sure they would love that.

That’s why they’ve made moves to discard borrowed powers, so you don’t get that feeling.
It would have been fine if they’d taken Legion as a one off, made the change to the talent trees in BfA, not bothered with Azurite armour and simply focused on the Heart of Azeroth as a expansion long upgradeable legendary amulet who’s power was reabsorbed back into Azeroth at expansions end.
But they didn’t.

Hopefully, they’ve learnt from their past mistakes and won’t repeat them in the future.

Gear is meant to keep you motivated but the content itself was supposed to be fun…
If you didn’t have fun you’re doing it wrong

People keep telling me GW2 doesn’t work that way. IDK though. I’ve never played it.

I mean yea, you work through raids / keys put time into it… and 6 months later you get slightly less gear from world events, if you not gonna get KSM / KSH / Curve or CE its really not worth doing any of the group content … infact no one really cares about those achives to begin with i guess it more like a personal goal

If you’re only playing to get gear you’re getting lost about what you’re even doing… It’s a game. You are meant to have fun.

I will admit there is a lot of times I wouldn’t touch it without the gear… But that’s due to repetition.

Don’t do difficult content. The point isn’t just the gear… People find that enjoyable

Horrible example. We had the Heart of Azeroth for 2 years.

It’s also how GW2, Rift and Old Republic work. Gear replacement and upgrades are a thing to keep pushing yourself up the ladder. If that’s not a style you enjoy, then I’d suggest checking out some other games that might make you more happy.

Then why play WoW if every gear you get would be replaced? Just quit. This game is not for you.

It’s for people who wants new Bosses every Season… requires gear progression to beat them.

Yikes. You okay bud?

Thats because borrowed power sucks.

We don’t have borrowed power in Dragonflight. Only thing you will be replacing is gear each season which is the case with all MMO’s.

Let’s use the HoA as an example. If that were still a thing, you wouldn’t have to grind as hard as people did in BfA as it was changed to allow faster leveling to a certain point.

I remember when BfA first hit farming like mad to get that necklace leveled up. You were capped at how much you could get a week and even the extra stuff didn’t give you much.

Did a new char BfA recently and neck went up really fast. My main’s neck goes up so slow because it is at such a crazy level. I need like 40-50k for the next level.

Point is: they could make it like xp works now. 1-60 is crazy fast. 60-70 not so fast. No need to grind.
