Items and Meaning

Something largely lost later in WoW was the meaning behind many items. If a player wore a certain helmet it meant he had defeated a certain boss, been present at a certain event, etc. I’m hoping Blizzard treats “meaning” as a guiding principle when it comes to Classic WoW’s items.

Should the mini Diablo pet be in WoW? Yes, but when I see one I want to know I’m staring at someone who has the Collector’s Edition. When I see a Murky, I want it to mean that player was at the very first BlizzCon (or at least acquired the swag code from someone who was).

Every so often I read a post asking for the meaning behind an item to be changed to make it less rare. Please don’t do this. I want my jaw to drop when a Murky runs past. I want to see crowds split like the Red Sea when a top tier tank enters a capital city.

We all remember those great moments in Vanilla when we’d shout to our friends and guildies, “Hurry, you have to see what this person has!” It was as much the meaning behind items as it was their looks that created those moments.

TLDR: Please maintain the same meaning items had when we played Vanilla all those years ago.

Thank you.

Can’t really add more to that than I agree.

I would not count on seeing those mini diablos or murkies in Classic.

Unless I am mistaken, Blizzard has stated that they consider classic and retail two separate games and that what is obtained in one will not carry over to the other.

There have even been multiple blue posts that specifically address those CE pets.

No, I don’t, because I never did this. I don’t care what other people have. I don’t care what other people don’t have. Items don’t have meaning because it is a bloody video game and it doesn’t matter.

The meaning of the items will remain the same, but never once did I ever see anybody go “Hurry, you have to see what this person has!” in Vanilla.
