Item Upgrade Idea

It always feels bad when your grinding keys, get a upgrade piece, but you can’t use it because it’s one of your set piece slots and you don’t have a charge available to convert it.

It would be nice if you could convert drops into set pieces without a charge, as long as you already have that set piece slot.

Sorta of the same vein of, whenever you get a new drop but its lower ilvl but you want to use it, you can upgrade it at the upgrade npc for a cheaper cost until it gets as high as your previous item (I know its different, but same vein of thinking)

With tier set pieces in particular I’m pretty sure the set bonuses outweigh the item level of the pieces. Unless perhaps you’re comparing veteran track to myth track, but even then it’s probably worth taking the item level drop to gain the tier set bonus, versus holding out until you have a catalyst charge.

I’m confused on how you thought I wasn’t doing that?

My post was about wishing we could have a free charge for duplicate slots. Because yeah I wouldnt switch out the piece and to lose my tier bonus so it’s a waste of a drop when I do get an ilvl upgrade.

I had this exact problem until this week. Finally got the shoulders in the Great Vault, and was able to take off my pants, replace with a current Hero track and catalyze, and then switch my hands from s2 tier to crafted embellished.

I’ve long wanted catalyst charges to be completely unlimited, or bound by currency alone.

If the designers want to gate how early you can get 2p/4p (and it seems they DO want), then simply disable the catalyst for the first x weeks of a season or disable the set bonuses until a certain timeframe passes.

I get that there is some gameplay element to saving your charges until you get a sufficiently good base piece, but it gets muddied a lot by the very slow pace of catalyst charges, item upgrading, and the crest caps that most directly impact early upgrades. Veteran tier NOW is unquestionably better than gambling on hero tier sometime later that can’t be upgraded much higher than the veteran one yet.

I agree. I can see it’s significance for the RWF, but other then that it’s just annoying. And it just knee caps players who typically only play M+ even more then they already are.

Maybe crushing tier pieces into shards that eventually turn into full ones (like 2 crushed set pieces = 1 catalyst) you could upgrade items into other tier pieces would be suitable

Same with if you used two sparks to make a weapon then got a weapon the following week… a crushing method which awarded back 25-50% of the sparks would be cool

How you doin’? :smirk:

I mean, we had that.

It went away because M+ers QQ’d so hard about early tier RNG, and how it was unfair that someone that did more than them got tier earlier in the season.
