Item Level Rant

Another day, another warfront, another upgrade to the wrong slot. I didn’t ask for boots, I asked for either an upgrade to my weapon, or especially to my TRINKETS.

Sorry, folks. Allow me to explain. It seems that throughout this expansion, my chances of getting an upgrade to either my trinkets or my weapon slots (main or off hand) are the same as trying to get syrup to run uphill…as in, next to none.

It seems like the last time I got an upgrade to either slot, the planet Earth was in the age of the dinosaurs. It seems as though I’ve been stuck with 2 ilvl 340 trinkets, a 340 ilvl axe, and ANOTHER axe that is ilvl 350. Everything else in my armor slots is either ilvl 355 or above…and seems to be getting all of the upgrades.

And it seems my chances of even getting an upgrade in those slots is slim to none. Battle for Dazar’alor? Gotta wait til January 22nd. Azeroth world bosses? Drop chance seems highly unlikely, even with the GENEROUS support of my Seals of Wartorn Fate (why can you only have 2 a week, and 5 max. I know why…they want bad players to stay bad). Normal+ Uldir? Yeah, with today’s elitist and toxic players, you’re better off running for Congress. Mythic+ dungeons? See my comment on Normal+ Uldir.

It seems as though I am doomed to be stuck with weapons with an average ilvl of 345, ilvl 340 trinkets, and my ilvl average is going to suffer because of it.

“So why does that matter, Illumona?” I’ll tell you why: Because you then land in the catch-22 of WoW: Players won’t invite you if you don’t have a high enough ilvl and/or a halfway decent Raider IO score (and Raider IO is a mess in and of itself, but we’ll see plenty of that type of banter when the Dazar’alor raid drops 4.5 weeks from now). But if they won’t invite you, how are you supposed to get better gear?

Now, I don’t quite care if elitists are going to not invite me (considering most elitists are toxic, probably live in their parent’s basement, and don’t have an actual job outside of streaming WoW 24/7), but it seems to me Blizzard is going to compound the situation by making upgrades to trinkets and weapons have such a low drop rate, it’s akin to winning the lottery.

Sorry if this made no sense, but it seems as though nowadays this game is working against me when it comes to gear upgrades. And if you want to see this farce for yourself, feel free to rifle through my armory profile.

TL;DR Getting any sort of trinket upgrade as well as any sort of weapon upgrade seems akin to winning the lottery for the casual player like me (as well as for the person who has an actual life).

Rant done. Illumona out.

Do warfronts even drop trinkets?

You should look into pvp conquest rewards.

I had to grind it, but I got a 370 wep AND a trophy that upgraded another pvp wep to 370.

The gear starts at 350, but if you work at it the next ones are 370 and so on. ALSO! The new warfront should help you get better gear too.

No they do not. Just Armor pieces and cloaks.

The guild I am in is recruiting, we do Alt runs Friday nights in normal Uldir. I usually give away my gear to guild mates. They get geared enough to do heroic uldir. There are guilds out there that are willing to help. Just need to find them. You could always join us.

Yep, my trinkets have been my low level pieces for a looooooooooong time. Can’t seem to get any to drop anywhere. Funny enough they were two of the first items I got past ilvl 340. Now the rest of my stuff is 375+ and I’m still dragging my 355 trinkets.

Nope. They don’t drop rings either, just everything else.

Well, there’s your trouble. RNG has no “asking” element. Not sure who you asked but they don’t have the power to alter RNG.

Hope this helps reduce your salt level! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Yeah, the trinkets and rings have to be aimed for and sought particularly, we’re finding. You can’t just warfront for them with alts like all the other slots.

Dungeons. We run people in 5-man dungeons of the level necessary for upgrades. You can also join LFR’s or premade raid groups looking for spot fills.

I got my 365 socketed weapon from a Mythic Cache, it was pretty lucky, warforged and socketed from a 355 cache.

Learn how to target gear, ie run the dungeons that drop 1H weapons and trinkets for your class (Hint: Freehold, Siege of Boralus, Underrot, off the top of my head). Join Uldir raids that are on bosses who drop 1H weapons and trinkets (Hint: Mother, Taloc - very easy bosses)

You need to be farming the places with the highest chances to drop what you need. You need to set your loot preferences. You need to be participating in all aspects of the game (dungeon, raid, quest, rep, professions, pvp). It’s how we all play the game, at least those of us able to get what we need (barring the impossible azerite).

Hoping for a specific drop from a cache that drops 10 different gear slots (which in your case does not includes of trinkets by the way) and may or may not follow loot preferences is not wise.

Faction assaults are raining 370 weapons.

By the way you can level up Alchemy from scratch for like 50K gold and craft yourself a 385 trinket, right now, in like one hour, assuming one has the expulsom and sanguicells necessary

If you weren’t asking the invisible Magical RNG Unicorn at the beginning of the instance you were asking the wrong person.

Working on it! Sigh. Yeah, professions are often overlooked, and Quixa here has an excellent point. Make sure there’s not a profession item you are overlooking that is available to you. Farm the mats and voila.

Nice, Meriweather. I just crafted mine on my main yesterday. People really overstate the cost of professions. They are not that bad. Levelling the prof and crafting the items is cheaper than even buying one raid level item off the AH

Ummmm…you realize trinkets don’t drop from warfronts right? And I’m not 100% sure weapons drop from the weekly (the 370/385 quest). They definitely do from regular ques (just look at my weps).

So…yeah that would be why you aren’t seeing the drops you want…

And in general weapons and trinkets have always been the hardest drops to get. So don’t expect those to rain from the skies any time soon.

I will confirm that I got a 370 2h polearm weapon from an assault. Be warned though that they can drop with stats you cant use if you play a class like druid or something that has INT, AGI, STR hybrids. I spec Balance but the polearm I got was AGI and does NOT swap to INT when I change specs.

Warfronts are nice for gearing up new characters. But the number of people who actually enjoy this content seems to be tiny.

I know the pug world is not friendly to new players, and that’s regrettable. But personally, I would suggest organising your time around content that you enjoy at some level, while offering you some level of personal growth (developing spec experience etc) and some chance at character growth (however small). A +3 might have terrible loot, but it’s real content where your contributions feel meaningful and you can actually feel like you’re playing the game. We all need to try and spend less time doing tedious things in an attempt to progress to some imagined non-tedious outcome and spend more time playing the game.

And if the people we met in pugs are awful, we need to look for guilds and communities to replace them.

Remember even if you get to some nice place for season one, that progress will be reset to some degree with season 2. Ilvl caps will rise, metrics of experience will start over.

I can attest to this, as I just got an ilvl 370 warglaive from the Stormsong assault a few moments ago.

And hey, everyone. Thought I’d share an update:

I was able to, through some sheer dumb luck, finally get an upgrade to one of my weapons during today’s faction assault. I was also able to, again through sheer dumb luck and the Azeroth world boss for the week, get an upgrade for one of my trinkets. And I might be able to get even better ilvl weapons and other gear from Ivus (IF Blizzard ever gets around to fixing that stupid bug with Ivus that got several players accounts suspended).

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to find out why my computer is overheating…
