So I’m a mage who entered Wotlk with BT T6 gear and the SSC trinket. I’m about to hit level 76 and I have quested and dungeon grinded. I have yet to see an upgrade even though I have seen several items 25 item level higher than the T6 gear but it’s all inferior. The only item I am currently using from wrath is the arena event staff and it is barely better if at all than the Brutal Gladiator staff I was using. I have also checked atlas loot for the higher level dungeon gear that I will be entering soon and none of it is better than TBC T6 gear. So I wonder if when I hit 80 and ready for heroics if people will look at my gear and consider it crap.
No, they won’t think it’s crap. For most classes, at least one or two pieces of T6 are pre-raid BiS.
Anyone who actually cares about the gear enough to be checking you for it will know what your gear is.
Thanks for the reply. I feel better now.
Mages pre raid BIS come from heroics except for your legs and shoulders which come from SWP.
As a boosty boy, I’m enjoying getting upgrades.
I realize that. My guild broke up right before SWP over drama so I don’t have the shoulders or legs. I was just worried about getting into heroics with gear that is 10 levels lower. I have heard that people are doing heroics in full Brutal gear and some people have complained about it. Fortunately the T6 pve gear is superior than that crap.
mages dont need gear
the upgrades are coming, currently the only items I’m keeping going into naxx are my brutallus legs and twins shoulders
Heh, I always exchange previous expansion gear for the current expansion gear even if it is inferior.
Its a new (well old in this case) expansion after all.
I went all the way to level 80 with my mage and the only “upgrade” for me was a cloak from Halls of Lightning because I needed more spell hit for my level. Once I started doing heroics better gear came along that made it worthwhile to break up the tier bonuses.
I’m in the same boat but I didn’t even have that gear I had some ssc and tk pieces and the rest were from older raids. It wasn’t till ab out that level that started replacing pieces. It get’s faster at around 76, 77. Especially some of the crafted pieces. Right now I think I’ve replaced all but one piece. All normal dungeons can probably be done in your gear right now. Heck, if your dps or heals you can probably do heroics in your gear.
Yeah like seriously I don’t feel like replacing my look looking 70 gear for whaetevr they make
why cant they add transmog to the game? they already made so many changes to the game
Anyone who thinks they can find anything meaningful from a single number in a complex environment is someone that should be avoided.
lol you have all that gear and getting upset. raid just came out and you haven’t done any heroic. just enjoy the journey.
Don’t worry OP, no one will think your gear is crap and if they do just beat them in the dps anyway. Heroics are pretty easy provided you don’t completely derp. The dps requirements for most heroics is like 1-1.5k ST, and as a fresh 80 with T6 you can easily do 2-2.5k ST without issue.
Naxx doesn’t need pre-raid bis either. If you happen to collect a few bits of gear from heroics great, and get some of the badge gear too but for dps it really isn’t a requirement unless you plan on getting extra sweaty. Same really goes for dropping $ on gems/enchants for gear you’ll replace in a few days or pots/flasks. Not needed for 95% of the content.
The only thing that ‘new’ gear has over the old that will make a solid difference is the amount of Hit and Stam on it. Some (very rare) bosses still have random mechanics that can hit you for more than your full hp, like the last gundrak boss.
If someone is gear checking for heroics, they’re not worth grouping with. We had a rouge DC in our last group and no one even noticed between bosses. I’m not saying the rogue was bad, it’s just that stuff dies so fast. It’s pretty chill. Don’t sweat it!
I would gladly take a fresh dps or two into my heroic groups. It would probably make things more interesting. The only time I look at someone’s gear is when they’re doing exceptionally well.
Most people don’t seem to realize that any ‘rating’ stat on a lvl 70 piece of gear will scale horribly at lvl 80.
Item level is only one small consideration in the discussion of whether an item is good or bad.
What I mean item level defines the stat “budget” that a piece of gear gets but how that budget is spent often matters more than the budget itself.
At the beginning of an expansion this budget is spent poorly, while many pieces of sunwell gear had an almost ideal stat distribution
Wrath Heroics are doable as 3 man groups. Absolutely no one should be looking down their nose at a non-plate DPS coming in with SWP gear.
