I’d see more frames.
bad pc
No, not really. It’s good and so is the processor. This relic of a game needs an engine overhaul though.
Easier said than done.
Game is a mountain of code.
Yeah I just can’t get behind any excuse for a game to be this CPU reliant in 2020.
it does suck just becuz they make ppl that dont have a lot of money have to buy a new PC . engine overhaul yes WOW does need one
Yeah, it needs to take advantage of multithreading more.
It really is a dinosaur of an engine.
Well tier sets and pvp vendors are hard work so i would not get my hopes up for them to do any such work.
It would require a serious rewrite to do anything major to the engine at this point. That is the problem when a game makes it 15 years, it tends to become a mess of spaghetti thrown over a very old core.
I get around 100 FPS in the City, 150 FPS in the wild, and up to 200 FPS in Dungeons & Raids.
Classic happened. A new engine could easily happen.
Being so CPU dependent makes it more accessible. If they shifted the load to the GPU then the folks who are running some back to school special with Intel HD graphics might not even be able to play it.
Classic was them restoring a OLD engine without last 14 years of code. Hell the engine classic is using is the same core as live, just with less bells and whistles turned on. They said during their interview that they didn’t even have the actually classic game engine any more.
that’s not… no. modern game engines are very, very difficult to make, and creating a new one is substantially different than making a 15 year old game work on modern hardware.
OK? So? They replace their pc…
Yes. Yes it is.
You have that backwards, also buy a decent PC and you won’t have fps issues ever
I would love for Blizzard to update WoW to be a more modern engine. I get annoyed when I play and notice my video card just sitting there doing almost nothing because everything is pushed upon my CPU. That was part of the reason I switched over from AMD to INTEL a few years back, their CPU was just better for that kind of work load.
But as someone who has been working as a programmer for nearly 20 years I understand the limitations of old applications. Hell every time we update one of our applications to a newer version of .net/CF or change the SQL server we have to fix issues the upgrade causes. It’s not easy to just rewrite a 15 year old game engine, it would probably take an entirely new game to be built from the ground up.
Bring on WoW 3!
Not everyone has the money for that. More so in certain countries.
no, really, game engines are not easy to make. i know this because i work on simulation engines.
OH GOD MY EYES GET IT AWAY EW EW EW
A graphically update wouldn’t necessarily require people to buy new PCs to continue playing. I remember back when EQ 1 did a major revamp of their game engine to improve the video performance and enable a newer model engine. To ensure people who’s computer couldn’t support it, they gave the client the option to select the game engine settings to load. So you could run the older engine and it would be just like before or you could select the new engine and enjoy the upgrade.
