It seems that PVP-only players can no longer exist in this expansion, is that right?

I play PVP only. No dungeon of any kind.

But in this expansion, upgrading gears requires Harbinger Crests, and they can only be obtained in dungeons, not in battlegrounds or arenas.
(Outdoor activities as well, but I guess the amount will be very limited compared to mythic dungeons.)

So, it seems that I have to complete dungeons in this version, otherwise I won’t be able to upgrade my gears bought with Conquest.

Is this understanding correct?
Thx!

nope, pvp gear scales up to max ilvl in pvp, if you just want to gear up and spend the expansion sitting in town only queueing for games, you can. you only need to pve to upgrade the pve ilvl of pvp gear, the pvp ilvl is not effected.

If you only play PvP, don’t upgrade your gear, it only upgrades the PvE stats.

And it costs more to repair.

I’ll go ahead and echo that upgrading only upgrades in PVE so it makes sense someone who would want to upgrade their pvp gear would be doing PVE to get those items to upgrade the gear for PVE.

As an RPG this is not a problem at all.

You don’t need to PvE at all to PvP. You will want to get enchants, craft some gear, and make gold somehow to pay for those things, but that’s about it.

No. You can always do Delves and get 616gear which or a solo pvp player, is millions of years ahead of what we used to get.

I did tier 8 no issue with just honor gear.

If you lvl only, why need the crest? That’s only for pve.

Everyone above is correct. If you only pvp, your pvp gear is at max level, no need to upgrade it. You are set. You can sell the sockets for gold for enchants, etc on AH. So you need do nothing non-pvp related this expansion so far.

You get crests from bunch of diff activities, not just dungeons

OK, now I get it.

But in open world PVP and duels, which are also parts of PVP, gears are not scaled up, so I have to play PVE if I don’t want to be one shot in these situations.
It feels bad.
I don’t remember this design was there 2 years ago when I played the last expansion.
I guess this is a new way the devs figured out to avoid wasting half of their work, by forcing players to experience both PVE and PVP.

Thanks for all of your replies~

This also isn’t quite how it works. If you touch an enemy player in the open world, your gear immediately scales up to its PvP iLvL, so it also works for open world content.

I believe the same exists for duels, but I do not duel often so I cannot confirm.

You don’t need to upgrade your gear, as it wont affect it in pvp.

You only upgrade it if you want some higher ilvl for pve.

Your pvp gear even scales to its pvp item level while in combat with a pvp training dummy. You shouldn’t struggle at all to enjoy the occasional world quest if you choose without the pvp item level scaling up for non pvp content. Low M+ and LFR are absolutely doable and enjoyable now without a Best in Slot set of crafted pvp gear and conquest gear. But yeah if ALL you do is pvp, you gain no benefits from upgrading pvp gear so you are all set. Happy Hunting!
