…the best they could come up with for the Ancient and Storied home of the Dragons was “Dragon Isles”?
That’s like calling Quel’Thalas “Blood Elf Country”

The name for the location existed for a long time. There’s also Pandaria, Ogrezonia, Plunder Isle, and Bunny Island.
im sorry, wut
I was supposed to receive a shipment of jasper from Azeroth Express, but I just heard their ship crashed into some tiny island called Ogrezonia. I worry about the crew, as the giant female ogres on the island are rumored to perform horrible rituals on men who happen upon their island. My work must go on, though, and we need those gems. I’ve heard great things about your skill as a jewelcrafter - could you deliver three jagged jaspers by the end of the day?
This is not relevant to the Dragon isles but, I actually named 3 corners ages ago by Redridge,
I climbed to the top of the mountains with a Night elf hunter in classic via the Swamp of sorrows and before we could fly , the terrain art wasn’t complete there and you could see clearly where the red of Redrige and Grayish green of Swamp of sorrows and Dark grey of Duskwood came together.
I said to a Gm, " you oughtta call it Three Corners’ and they did.
They would never reduce elven culture to some bland naming convention like ‘Silvermoon’.
Blame the dragons…you know the entities that existed before the mortal races as we know them did. They named their dumb ancestral homes that.
You mean “High Home”
Foreign language always makes a name more colorful.
Like Los Gatos is “The Cats”.
“Blood Elf Forest”
“Orc Canyons”
“Troll Island”
It really kind of is that bad.
They could do worse - humans are awful at naming things. “Gobi” is Mongolian for desert so the Gobi Desert is Desert Desert. “Tahoe” is Washo for “Lake” so Lake Tahoe is “Lake Lake”
Norway has the Filefjell Mountain or the Mountain Mountain Mountain
They missed an opportunity to call it the “Orc Chasm”
/Cough…Winterspringflorida…Cough
Anduin Wrynn, the King of Human City
I would have gone for Insulae Draconenses.
It’s been called that since the beginning of WoW.
Actually before WoW was even a thing, IIRC.
I mean personally, I was hoping for Isla Nublar but here we are.
I don’t know why I just now realized this, but it is weird that the capitol is called Silvermoon, it makes sense givem that it was founded when the high elves were still highborne. But now Silvermoon is kind of the the antithesis of Blood Elven culture. They like adorning buildings and themselves in gold, and they’re diurnal now rather than nocturnal. Should rename it to Goldsun, still bland but makes more sense for them as they are now.
Blizzards ode to the snu snu.
Clever girl
Quel’dorei = High Elves
Quel’Thalas = High Home
This is not uncommon even in real life, you just don’t speak the language so it sounds exotic.
If you’d prefer, you can translate Dragon Isles into dragon language and call them the ROOOOARRRRRRRRRE GRUGGLRLGGNG.
