It is time to talk about class balance

With people advocating for BC release, we come to an important point, that classes need to be changed.

This is not a thread to talk about if we do or do not want changes. This thread is to discuss what changes should be made, what kind of changes are acceptable or not.

Feel free to post your opinion.

At what point in time from the release of Classic up until this point, did you decide class balance and changes were up for discussion? It’s a done deal. It’s already been made. It’s already been played. If TBC ever gets released, it will be identical to the original version, or close enough to… and your class balance discussion isn’t part of that story :joy:

Whatever changes blizzard makes to the game is their decision, but classes balances and changes is too much.

The main point of BC is that they made the changes to Vanilla in it… there doesn’t need to be any changes to BC… the expac itself was the change.

We need a company change before class changes. Actiblizz blows and ruins anything it touches.

Too bad, because No.

Simple. All classes need to become demon scrubs with unholy death knit scrub range attacks and then we are all equal. Done. Delete everything else OK Boomers?

buff warlocks and meme specs (every shaman spec useless and bad class, moonkins/feral, ret, etc)
nerf warriors, mages, and remove rogues from the game (undead rogue accounts permabanned)

i have now saved classic

Shamans are one of those classes that involve a really difficult topic.
Fundamentally they are designed in a game to be bursty, and that has issues with dps in pve, raise the damage and you break the class even more in pvp, and lower it and you break it in pvp.

The solution to balancing them as viable dps classes in pve might be easier then we think however. Some modifications to flame shock to be more pve oriented, and some reduction to fire totem costs (especially magma and nova) and some buffs to searing totem might just help fix this.

The question on this that is really open to discussion is will itemization fix it.

In my evaluation of the shaman and balance druid classes, i feel they drink way to much. Shamans for the reason of fire totems and costly shocks. Balance suffers similar burst / mana dps issues in pve.

Balance however is much easier to balance, it would simply involving changing moonfire to be less impact damage and more dot related, and potentially looking at a talent that makes it apply like retail sunfire does (aoe dot per cast). additionaly a cast time reduction on wrath and a mana cost reduction and some mana regeneration support on wrath would help.

Warlocks are fine, imo. i would not go around making to many changes to them and if they were made it’s be on the level of validating some useless talents, pets, or spells.

Oh. Found the British loyalist. Realize this. You owe your freedoms to criminals. If the American Revolution would have been lost the American Forefathers would have been tried and executed as criminals against the crown.
So if you’re American and you like your freedom. Thank a criminal.
Btw. If it wasn’t for Nost you probably wouldn’t be playing classic right now. But hey sit there on your high horse looking down on the criminals who brought you so much.
Do you indulge in alcohol? Thank those criminals for that too.

Uh huh. Tell me more about how it’s subjective.

In my opinion there are some base things that need to be changed like the one that were changed in vanilla (For example the fixing of haste and how it works).

I also believe that we should not ditch the resistance system, this was something taken out of wow after a while.

I do believe that is backwards. Currently, the more resists something has the less damage you do, or more likely to mitigate all the damage.

I believe the resistance system should work in a way that gives people a damage buff, starting and 0 and working backwards to negative values.
This should include adding a + spell penetration stat to the game, which reduces the targets resistances.

This would also include removing the ability to fully resist things in the game, and simply just cap the damage as a form of armor for magic, say at 15%.

So instead of going 0 to 300 resistances, we would be more like -150 to +150 resistance, with +15% damage to target, or - 15% damage to target. This would encourage specs in raids, but not invalidate people who want to play others. This is in harmony with modernized thinking, but allows the original game play experience to stay the same with out being so punishing on people for wanting to play a class that is heavily countered by a raid boss.

It is time to talk about class balance

no its not.

I think any long-time player of classic can tell you what changes need to be made. IMO Paladins, shamans, and druids need a boost. They suck endgame unless they heal.

I’d say give paladins crusader strike, give moonkins some serious mana regen, and call it a day. Most classes that dps can play any of their dps specs with pretty good viability in raids. These two classes simply can not. I would argue against changes to other classes for this reason, and the reason that we came here to play the game were playing as a historical piece and that doesn’t including making potentially game breaking changes to every class.

Of course the first person that suggests a change is the most OP class in the game, and they’re calling for a nerf to one of the weaker classes. Lolol

Nerf mages.

As an actual vet to the game I’m calling you a tool.

Ikr. They missed these discussions before classic launched. These discussions were had before we even knew we were getting static 1.12.
Those discussions probably had no bearing on what blizz was planning anyways. When has our feedback mattered?
Hell even the beta test for classic was only until what 35 or 40? They didn’t even test end game in public. Allegedly it was done internally.
They didn’t listen after hundreds of posts and arguements about layering or how 1.12 talents made the game easier.
If anything they are going to ride this hooptie until the wheels fall off and then give us Classic TBC and repeat with Wrath.
