Those zones were not built with flying in mind, and would need to be completely rebuilt from scratch to allow for it. No fly zones are built with the expectation that certain areas will NEVER be visible, so there will be large areas that are empty voids, or lacking textures, etc. It’s really not worth the effort for them to update those zones.

Yup. That’s why flying in Draenor was such a huge issue. It was originally never meant to be a flying zone so they essentially had to go back and redo the whole area when they decided to put flying back in. PAthfinder was our punishment. We ate the apple and will be forever tainted for it.

They actually tried this during the Cata-beta if I’m remembering correctly. You could fly in Ghostlands and it was alright. However, Silvermoon is built off of 2D models and therefore would need to be redone. When you flew from Ghostlands into Eversong, the invisible ceiling would push you down to the ground once you hit the bordering creek.

They never let the change go live because it was terrible…plus you still had to go through the portal since the zones sit on the BC instance server. Hope is one day they finally merge everything over since old xpac content isn’t segregated anymore for purchase.

If the reason flying isn’t allowed is because of lazy development… then those zones should be fixed. There is zero reason not to allow flying in any old content.

Also, a little known fact is that certain old areas (Eversong, Ghostlands, Quel’danas, Azuremyst, Bloodmyst) aren’t actually IN Easter Kingdoms. The maps are actually are actually located in what would be Outland. The portal you take to get to some of those areas exists for that very reason.

Yes all these zones that no longer have relevance need flying.

Yea, especially since the border of that BC instance portal causes issues with the rest of the Plaguelands near the border, especially around Stratholme. Basically, while the actual entrance is only that tunnel, there is an invisible wall that stretches across the zone but not in a straight line and so there are a few areas that you should be able to get to (and were in vanilla) that you can’t anymore. Like you used to be able to run directly to the back gate of Stratholme, but now you have to go in juuuust the right area to get around that invisible wall.

As great and neat that would be. It would mean a lot of work on their end. Those zones are exclusively unique, not part of the open world even though it should but this was before Flying existed. So, they gotta add stuff which you normally wouldn’t see on foot and I’m sure there’s a lot…

Maybe someday but it sure isn’t a priority, even for majority of players because you’ll be out of the zones well before flying comes into play.
