Issues with settings? [Update, personal fix found!]

I’m trying to get my classic system settings done today with the stress test, but I seem to be having some issues turning on windowed mode?

Unsure of what I’m doing wrong, but when I change the drop down from Windowed (fullscreen) to Windowed, and hit apply, it tries to apply the setting, and then gives me an error about 3d acceleration unable to start, and kicks me out. Any suggestions as to what I’m missing and unable to figure out?

Update: FIXED on my PC, hope this helps those who are looking at this thread! I hope this helps those who are still having this issue.

Step 2) Log into the Blizzard app -> Select the World of Warcraft tab(left side) -> Options -> Show in explorer -> Open the World of Warcraft folder.

  • Right click on Wow-64.exe select: “Properties.” In the Properties menu, click the “Compatibility” tab.
  • Click “Disable Fullscreen Optimizations”
  • Click Apply
  • Repeat this for World of Warcraft Launcher.exe and Wow.exe
  • Restart, and try again.

I 'm having that issue as well. Exact message is “World of Warcraft was unable to start 3D acceleration.”

Exactly. I’m trying to find options for what’s going on, but thought that I’d post here as well. Will update if I can find any work arounds.

Same issue and it’s annoying. I actually can’t play unless I can minimize the screen so I guess I’ll see you all at the end of the month if they fix this.

Someone suggested alt + t to toggle between fullscreen and windowed, it isn’t working for me, but I figured I would put this here too, I’m still hunting.

Same thing for me also. This has been an issue for months and appears it has still not been addressed.

Google has said that it’s driver based, but it works in windowed mode on retail…or it did the other day.

Checked and verified. It worked on retail…the hunt for work arounds continues.

Oho, I found a way to disable them from the old forums site!!!

Howdy!

If you recently updated Windows 10 this error can occur. I would recommend to double check the following 2 steps:

  • Make sure your display driver is fully updated, we offer a support page if you need help Here.

Nypenthe’s Work-around did not work for me. However, disabling Discord’s overlay did work. Game is running in windowed mode.
To disable Discord Overlay, In discord, bottom corner is your name, along with a gear icon. Click the gear icon, then select overlay from the left hand side. At the top you should see the option slider to enable and disable the overlay.
Hopefully that will work for others as well.
