Issues leveling alchemy

I’m wondering what I’m missing…. I’m 42 alchemy and I’ve learned every thing the alchemy trainer has to offer. (like 8 things). Everything I’ve learned is gray now. I show a ton of unlearned things but trainer offers nothing more. I looked at the cauldron and saw a couple more learnable but nothing to the extent of the long list of unlearned in my alchemy.

I checked the inscription trainer and he shows 20 or 30 things to learn… what am I missing?

You have to access the Cauldron next to the alch table to get the next level of recipes.

They are tied to doing x number of certain flasks to unlock recipes at the Cauldron.

ah… so what the cauldron offers, changes over time… ok.. Tks!

There should be a location of unlearned recipe in the same window when you make stuff.

Not at computer atm else I’d take a screenshot

I’m not sure recipes change at Cauldron? Sorry if I wasn’t clear.

The recipes that I learned from the Cauldron often give +3 leveling xp. So for example I did the Blood Knight flasks 10 times and got almost 30 leveling xp just from making that flask.

My alchemist is around 90 so this has been enough for her to level almost completely.

Now I’ve unlocked one of the transmute recipes that will give me some yellow skill leveling the rest of the way to 100 skill points.

I’ve been going slow as alch have been making me gold even at lower skill level.

I just got rid of leather working to pickup alchemy. I feel like I made a mistake

Meanwhile, some recipes are rare drops from Delves or random treasures… and selling for 50k+ on the AH.

Blizzard, “let things be fun” challenge level – impossible.

There are also some alch recipes at the rep vendors, but don’t feel the need to buy all of them if you are limited on moxie/marl.

I think I bought one alch recipe from the Haranir or Amani to aide in my prof leveling, that’s it for now.

Edit: I also gave housing decor recipes a pass for now. They often have rare mats and I want to spend moxie/marl on high turnover potions and flasks that are relatively easy to make.

So here’s my usual method for levelling a new alchemist to 100 skill very quickly. This will work for both potion and flask spec.

important: DO NOT look at your patron order tab until the appropriate step. Not even to see what you need to unlock! No looking at all!

  1. First thing I do after learning alchemy from the trainer: travel around the world and loot my eight alchemy treasures. Each gives 3 knowledge points and 15 moxie, and you need moxie to learn recipes, so this is very important. Here’s a list of all 8 locations: https://www.wowhead.com/guide/midnight/professions/knowledge-point-treasure-locations. You should also loot your 2 weekly treasures, Aged Cruor and Lightbloomed spore sample, from random treasures out in the world.

  2. Once I’ve looted my prof treasures, I return to SMC and buy at least 100 oil of heartwood from the alchemy supplies vendor.

  3. Craft health potions until the recipe turns green, then immediately recycle all those potions.

  4. Talk to the trainer, learn all the recipes he has to teach you, and try to craft each one at least once (I actually craft them all 3 times, which gives me 15 of each potion, which is a nice round number I can use to recycle all of them). You won’t be able to transmute the mote without a philosopher’s stone, but that’s okay.

  5. At skill 25, you can choose a specialisation to put all the knowledge points you’ve earned into. Pick either potions or flasks and fill out the big wheel at the top as much as you can. Open up the secondary wheels (that’s the light/void potions or the thalassian flask of resistance/haranir phial, depending on your chosen tree). Craft those for your first craft bonus. try and craft whatever is orange or yellow up until you reach skill level 50.

  6. Now look at the cauldron. You will be able to learn some recipes outright. If you made a lot of health potions, you’ll be able to unlock the mana potion recipe, learn that. you’ll also be able to make a philosopher’s stone, if you don’t have one of those.

  7. if you picked flask spec, make a thalassian resilience flask (+versatility) and drink it. now you can learn the blood knight flask from the cauldron. learn that one and craft either or the resilience flask a further 9 times total (not 9 flasks! 9 times for a total of 18 flasks, plus the leftover resilience flask from your first craft). that will let you learn the magister & shattered sun flasks from the cauldron, make them for the first craft bonus and go to step 9.

  8. if you picked potion spec, craft void-shrouded tincture 10 times (NOT 10 potions! craft 10 times for a base of 50 potions!), this will allow you to learn potion of devoured dreams & potion of rampant abandon from the cauldron. learn them and make them to get your first craft knowledge point and any moxie you can.

  9. NOW you can look at your patron order tab at the crafting table. The game tries to give you recipes you can make, and it generates the list for the first time when you look at it. Saving looking at the patron order tab until this stage, when you’ve already locked in your speciality and picked up some potions or flasks you can make, increases your chances of getting patron orders you can fill.

  10. Pick up the weekly quest from the trainer, if you haven’t already, and fill as many patron orders as you can for moxie and KP. Buy more recipes from the cauldron. Keep making first crafts until you have nothing more you can make that day.

  11. Now, pick whatever recipe you learned from the cauldron that is orange to you, and make it up to 90. Potions go yellow at 80 and green at 90, but you can push through to 100 with them even if they’re green, and they’re pretty cheap. flasks go yellow at 90 but they’re a lot more expensive to craft, so many decisions accordingly!

  12. remember you get 2-3 new patron orders every day, so check back daily to see if there’s anything on the board worth doing.

that’s it! grats on 100!

Wow… that’s awesome! Thanks everyone but this is great! <3

Protip: “become more versatile” for the haste flask can be done by drinking a versatility flask and then talking to the cauldron. The game does a poor job on explaining this.

If thats your main, not really.

Alchemy is one of the better professions to have on a main due to its buff that doubles the duration of Flasks, which is great for Raiding and M+

I don’t actually do a lot of potions/flasks on my alchemist so I speced Transmutation Authority to learn Wondrous Synergist, which has limited crafts per day, but is very efficient with +3 skill gain per craft until 90 before turning yellow.

OMG that’s amazing, thank you for that guide! I bookmarked it! :dracthyr_heart:

Yes this is the one I specced into, as it’s also a decor mat. It’s only +2 skill now but I’ll take it.

Not in my experience, patron orders routinely have recipies you haven’t learned, otherwise people wouldn’t bother learning anything to keep the pool of patron orders the cheap simple stuff.

I wish I had your guide before I started raising my alch. It’s awesome. Gonna bookmark it and see how I can use it to continue leveling.

Getting to 65 alch takes like 10 mins

Nah I have alchemy solely for the increased flask duration.. it’s bis.

You can mouse over I think the exclamation point in the recipe details for unlearned stuff and it’ll show you the source
