Issues in seeing spells with low graphics

I have been playing with my graphics settings, the /console commands, the advanced CVars, hanging my Nvidia stuff, made a few changes and have managed to get an increase from less than 30 FPS in a raid setting up to now 80 while sitting in Org when there are hundreds of people. In last nights raid I ran 10/10 settings and had no issues with lag. This was the same for many players in my guild.

There are issues with running low graphics, like when I ran the Crown Chemical Co. LFG, a week ago DBM would pop up saying “Chemical Spill” or whatever, but I couldn’t see what I was standing in. Today, with my graphics sitting 10/10 I could very clearly see what my characters where standing in.

You run an ancient game engine, we all know that, and to really fix any issues you need to re-do the entire game, that would take forever and create a vast array of bugs that it is just not worth the cost, effort and most importantly time to sort out. Maybe if there was WoW 2.0, or World of Diablo or something you could than make a new engine.

But as it stands you still need to fix a few things because it is not fair to players who run low graphics to not actually see when an important factor of game play needs to be followed, like standing in the crap. I have not ran 10/10 settings for a few months at least now, was getting FPS issues since BOD and since making the changes a few of us in the guild managed to sort it out.

The difference between 1/10 graphics compared to 10/10 graphics just in the love dungeon, you gotta see it to believe it. I can almost guarantee it will be somewhat similar in new content, will be running M+ to see what I have been missing, or more so, not missing.

I run low graphics settings and don’t have an issue seeing stuff. It’s just one setting that I have to set to “good” and I’m golden. Everything else can stay at low. Particle density, I think? I’m not at home or I’d check.

The only option that’s annoying me that we lost is the ability to disable shadows. Why they got rid of that is beyond me.

Maybe its that one, but for sure running 1/10, everything to as low as possible, you do have an issue seeing stuff.

Normally I’m all for Blizzard’s philosophy of letting the game run on the proverbial potato… but if you actually find yourself needing to run at 1/10 then it’s time to upgrade at least to a butternut squash.

No actually I fully blame Blizzard for players needing to run 1/10.

A week ago I was doing that, made some in game CVar changes along with adjusting minor settings manually in my Nvidia Control Panel rather than let the 3D application decide, and now I can run back to 10/10 graphics with more FPS than I did a week ago.

I would think they should know better, but at this point I highly doubt they know much about what they are doing. Players should not have to manually change settings to make the game work, you should be able to “Let the 3D application decide” and than press recommended in game and have no issues.

But that is not the case, the recommended settings is by default 7/10, it does nothing, everyone seems to be defaulting to 7/10. You need to manually change what needs to be changed including the config.wtf file, who the hell knows to do all that without help?

And if you think my potato is the issue, first you don’t even know what I run, second I was helping a guildie last night, she runs a Strix setup. I have guildies who run i9’s, recent ones, one of my guild runs a dual GPU setup, they all were having issues since we started raiding BoD until me started messing with the settings.

I had this issue crop up in Legion, when I was running on the potato-iest of potatoes for a time. There were Invasion WQ bosses that I’d either die to or just barely make it through alive, and when I finally was able to do a PC upgrade, I saw that they put a target on the ground and then hit it a few seconds later.

Never saw it before. I knew enough to move, but was probably always moving into someone else’s now-vacated cross-hair.

It would be nice not to hide this sorta stuff under graphics quality settings, I agree.

At this point I don’t really think the current dev team know what to do with a game engine this old.

“Don’t stand in the fire”
“What Fire?”
“That fire!”
“What Fire?”

Probably the setting that’s being troublesome is projected textures. That’s what controls most ground spell graphic overlays.

I can’t say I’ve had graphic issues at all since early Legion, and I’ve run the game with settings anywhere between 5/10 and 10/10. Always buttery smooth and all looks as it should. That said, I haven’t yet run BoD.

Except this isn’t a common issue that I’ve ever run across with anyone I’ve pugged with or played with across three servers. So I’m confused as to how this is some huge problem.

On wowhaed a while ago. I think thye said something wrong with gtx. Not to upgrade. Not sure iif ever fixed. I solved that problem with friend help. Not sure what she did. i can now run at maxed settings with my gtx 750 and still have a fps of 90.
