Issue with wand toggled autoattack

Hello everyone,

There are a few posts about wands in classic but none seem to address the issue I personally have with them. I understand that Shoot is a toggled attack, where using it again cancels the auto-attack. My issue is that even if it uses the GCD, Shoot seems to activate itself repeatedly outside the GCD (when the icon goes red like the melee auto-attack) to continuously attack. This causes issues with me, as I may try to toggle Shoot off when there’s already one attack queued in. The game then gives me “the ability isn’t ready” message (3 times instantaneously) and casts one more attack. Trying to move to cancel causes the same message to appear, then the “can’t do that while moving” message when the GCD refreshes, then tries to continue casting if I don’t use another ability. The macros for spammable wand attacks that I’ve seen so far on the forums don’t seem to fix this issue.

Long story short, I was wondering if there was a way to circumvent this auto-attack system and having an ability or macro that queues in wand attacks that doesn’t queue themselves preemptively during GCD.

I’m not experiencing that.

Really? How does Shoot behave for you when you want to cancel its auto-attack?

Its annoying for sure, i just make sure to think a bit ahead of the next shot. IE if a CD ability is coming off CD ill interupt wand 1 GCD earlier.

This is extremely annoying for me as well on my Warlock. I actually think you’ve explained it very precisely – it’s like its queuing the follow up cast and locking you in so if you cancel or jump move it’s still going to try and wand again. Makes it so you end up getting a second wand attack in even if you try and cancel it for another spell. Can’t weave wand attacks in very well as a result. I’m hoping someone has a good macro for it.

Add another bug to the pile due to this broken spell-batching queue.

Just tap your backpedal key.

That has been so annoying. Get it on everyone of my casters.

Yeah that’s something that would work if the mechanic was still behaving like it was supposed to. It doesn’t anymore.

I’d recommend posting this also to the bug-reports forum. Apparently they read it.

Done, thanks for the suggestion.

Also, why does wanding have to be one of the most annoying sounds in the entire game? It makes me glad that my Druid resto/balance caster just has to autoattack with weapon instead of wanding while my two DoT’s tick away. Plus, you can seamlessly cast while autoattacking, unlike the stupid, clunky implementation of wanding.

This problem is mostly for unexpected situations. It’s easy to plan a CD in advance but the same thing can’t be said for situational spells that should be cast as fast as possible like cast interruption, emergency healing, etc.

yeah I’m too scared to wand on my priest to help with a little damage while I’m regen because I’m too paranoid I’ll need a clutch bubble or heal but I’ll be stuck in the shoot cycle.

Also gets annoying hearing my guy say “I can’t do that!” when I kill the mob and walk towards it to loot while the batched shoot tries to go off.

Can confirm. Super annoying.

yep, ive adapted by canceling my auto shoot, one shot early

i know what youre talking about. once your wand fires and youre ready to stop, move and turn away real quick, itll be long enough to cancel the next shot and avoid triggering the GCD

If it’s really queuing it like a spell, I wonder if just a /stopcast macro would stop it.

PS: no wonder they got rid of wands in retail. It doesn’t work with their system.

Notice it starts up slower than I remembered.
