Issue - Killing the casual/new pvp playerbase

In 9.1.5 1600 rating gives you 249 gear, which is very good. Almost anyone can get this rating without effort and its only 10 ilvl off 2100 geared people which is a very small % of the total population. Regardless even considering this fact, I think it’s extremely unfair to limit people who just want to queue random bgs for fun as a way to use their monthly sub to gear so pathetically useless.

I dont like that the game probably kills any new casuals who try pvp after they get one shot or yelled at for not having enough gear and making the bg harder. I want an active game, I want people to enjoy PvP… casuals shouldnt be at such a disadvantage.

Overall, honor gear is too weak. It requires a lot of honor upgrade and many, many hours of gameplay. Even then, still useless. Honor gear could use one more buff. Maybe keep it at 240? Or better yet, just 2 sets of gear with no upgrades, then even casuals can get it eventually after getting enough daily bg wins…

New players deserve to be on a semi even playing field through casual content via pvp. The proposed 249 ilvl in pvp honor and 259 ilvl cq does not effect the PvE side of the game and still allows a gear difference between new players/alts and veterans so players can feel a power increase. I think this is the best course for the game as the past has proven it is the best system available.

Edit - Since PvP is a minigame and its gear ilvl is drastically lower in pve, the two sets of gear wont effect anything except increase the health of the pvp playerbase.

Candy Crush accountants made it this way. I know something you all should.

I mean the idea of the two gear template was literally a thing until Legion. Templates weren’t awful but didn’t feel good because there was no customization which a lot of people like to play around with different stat builds. Then BfA and now Shadowlands…ya well. Got baited with PvP vendors quite honestly lol.

My opinion is in 9.2 we will see a change along these lines quite honestly. I hope anyway. Definitely 10.0 which is rumored to have BIG changes apparently from sources.

Double baited in SL, first with vendors and then teasing “WoD gearing” which also didnt pan out like we thought it would. Though to be fair, if you only play one character, enjoy rated PvP and start at the beginning of the season the system isnt that bad. But old systems were good for everyone.

Hope for 10.0 they go back to two sets or templates though, but I dunno if they are learning the right lesson from rated participation being down so far. Maybe we will learn more with the community council thing they are making.

I would prefer two sets. I still think random bgs should have undergeared folk and their should be some sort of progression. But folks shouldnt still be considered so vastly undergeared with a full honor set.

A few things that have me hopeful. One recent statements by Ion about them being stubborn and holding on to old values etc. Not something that you ever here coming out of the dev team. 2nd the council. I know they have done things like this before, at least privately. But usually it only focused on end game stuff, not literally every aspect of the game. Also the fact it will be rotating as well. Before councils only consisted of hand picked content creators. Either they are finally realizing on their own things aren’t working or are being forced to realize because of recent events. Also remember there have been a lot of changes internally on the team that may also be affecting how they think now, or even giving the Dev team more freedom.

Honor gear is fine. You just start in it for a little bit while you farm conq. Never upgrade it unless you’re capped.

Honor cost to upgrade conq gear sucks though

I mean WoD had two sets. Honor and Conquest. And even someone doing casually BGs could eventually have a full set on conquest gear. People who preferred rated would just get it faster.

Same as right now, then, but with upgrades

Thats what I mean casuals should have a shot at getting good gear albeit at a much slower pace. I dont have this issue, ill q arenas at 30k hp to cap my cq but idk… I just feel like new players get turned off by pvp so fast in BFA/SLands…

I think it’s kinda funny that rivals+ get better gear on top of already being better than an average player that doesnt queue arenas…

It’s like blizzard was just like well they gonna lose anyways let’s just make them lose faster.

There are even R1 players that don’t like this system for that reason. Making the already really really good player god.

ive gotten to 1600 on a few toons and 1800 on one. I don’t think it’s trivial to get to 1600. it’s doable but not that easy

I hate rated play. i do it to get gear but id rather just queue randoms and grind gear that way. better players still gonna be better.

If you are Horde yes.

With the fast queues and bonus honor , honor grinding is very easy for alliance

What if…

Just bare with me here this might sound crazy…

More people might play if they didnt have to feel like a monkey giving blizzard 15$ a month for a game that gets 1 content update a year.

Maybe add a season pass for 20$ a patch or something.

Lets look at rated vs non rated.

Rated

1. Restrictive on classes and specs
2. Link CR and EXP
3. Waste time sitting in LFG - unless you can find partners to climb with
4. Lose 1 match and have to sit in LFG finding replacements
5. Requires voice to coordinate burst/cc/peels etc

Non Rated

1. Fully open on classes and specs (can result in mismatched comps)
2. No experience needed
3. Can solo queue or with friends
4. ^
5. Can chill and listen to music while BGing

Which of those sounds more likely to attract the people new to the game or people who want to play just for fun and not prestige - ie casuals.

With all the noise made in here, you’d think that change would have happened during beta, or 9.0.5, or 9.1, or 9.1.5.

We have been getting trolled over and over since Legion.

All my friends would rather play New World for PVP now. They were all former WoW Casual PVPers.

And gear being tied to rating is the reason.
