ISSUE I put darkness down, people run out

Visually, this spell looks too much like a bad thing to be standing in, often causing people and tanks to move out of it. It seriously needs a visual overhaul.

If I can suggest maybe,

* a dark smoke bomb or some kind of vertical pillar of darkness.

* if you are standing in it your edges of screen glow a certain color.

* design a glyph that allows you to change the color of it.

My complaint is sometimes it can do more harm than good on something like Overseer Korgus and prevent you from standing in the correct place because of how it obscures the actual ground. Death and Decay also can do the same thing on this boss. A graphic change that would prevent this situation would be welcomed. Overall I love the ability though. I feel that MOST people know that the dark purple graphic on the ground will save your posterior…so stand in it.

Ground effects in general have issues with overruling hostile ground effects. I definitely accidentally knocked back mobs in a +10 I did yesterday straight into a Sanguine patch because it was nearly completely obscured by my Tar Trap (and of course, that also meant they were slowed while running back out of the Sanguine).

That said, I do wish Darkness had a better visual, and that the visual better reflected the actual range of the effect. The spell just sort of vaguely fades to nothing over a 5-6 yard visual, but it has an actual range of 8 yards from point of impact. The screen edge thing I think could help, and could honestly be applied to other raid-level area DR effects (ex. Barrier) as well. One thing I’ve done is downloaded the addon RSA and set it to /s DARKNESS! when I pop it. I have similar alerts for Chaos Nova and Netherwalk, to alert my party/raid members easily to important abilities they need to take note of. The Netherwalk one is mostly for healers that see me, for example, standing in one place soaking a laser or Coin Shower with it on Opulence, so they don’t panic Cocoon me or something (which, if it isn’t obvious, is precisely the event that made me add that alert in this week =P).

It would be cool if they made the effect more like AMZ or something.

Good call on announcing Darkness/spells. I normally run on discord, but it would def be helpful for pugs.

I agree, having a character announcement and also announcing it in microphone if you are using mics can help inform the raid/dungeon. You can also macro it to your ability if you don’t want to get an addon.

Best suggestion I could give would be to make a macro /y Darkness Down! Get in the purple!!

Also, I really really really wish Vengeance DH would have the darkness ability. We had it at one point in Beta of Legion, but it was removed thinking we would be too overpowered.

Now a days in BFA with all the trait pruning Vengeance went through, it would be an welcome addition and surely not make VDH an overpowered tanking class.

The main reason I don’t macro those things is because if you spam the button a few times, it’ll fire the yell each time. It’ll also fire even if Darkness was on CD. RSA only fires on successful spell cast (and for Chaos Nova, only if it actually stunned something).

Have to agree with this. And it’s not like tanks with raid support CDs are unusual. Guardian has Stampeding Roar. Prot Warrior has Rallying Cry. Paladin has Sacrifice, Freedom, and Protection or Spellwarding, and can talent into Aegis of Light. Giving Darkness to Vengeance would not be unprecedented.

My advice is to set a macro saying to stay in the black lol

My shaman just has me trained to put it down whenever SLT is dropped. :-/

I dont really havoc much, as you can tell from my veng crap gear lol, but I am starting to get into doing it. lol. So darkness and blur are my go toos.

having the same trouble but whenever i put my one down i dont see anything but the ability is on CD. I know its up but I can just make out little purpley things if anything. Anyone else have the same issue?

I think that’s just how it looks. It’s a mostly translucent purple cloud that’s just visible enough for me to see. But I can’t shake the feeling my party members seem to usually run out of it.

I always make it apparent to my raid to look at the healing meters to see that sweet DH heals! >:D

Need to make sure you stand in bad stuff, too, to augment your leech healing. And I too love the fact that Darkness counts as an absorb (ie. as healing on the meters).
