All of these bugs are present currently on The War Within and have yet to be addressed. If you have time perhaps ( upvote ) the thread so it can get more eyes on it and we can have a very clean launch of the War Within.
Thank you Lazey for your documentation and thank you reader for taking the time to read this.
Blizzard tends to delete “In Development” forums soon after launches of expansions/content patches. Since most of the things are not fixed a few hours before TWW’s Early access, I think it makes sense also to add that here now not to lose it…
Achievements
- “Khaz Algar Safari” [40194] doesn’t list “Waxwick” as its pet reward (or RewardItemID), while the pet lists the achievement as its source.
- We don’t have a meta-achievement (and therefore no reward) for the new Family Battler, only the ten family-related sub-achievements exist.
- “Good Things Come in Small Packages” [15644] and “Court is Now in Session” [16731] were removed/suppressed for Dragonflight because we couldn’t get to 1800 unique pets in this expansion. With the launch of TWW this is possible and internally the criteria still seem to exist, because I got “Mister Muscoxeles” [3265] and the “Knight of Feathersworth” title without their achievements popping on screen. (pet is not accessible in the journal). So it’s probably the right time to re-implement them.
- “A Champion’s Tour: The War Within” [40088] doesn’t reflect the latest name change of the rewarded pet (“Ruby-Eyed Stagshell”).
- “Worm Theory” [40869] doesn’t list the three required quests yet.
- “Hatchling of the Talon” [10774] got “Pet: “ added to the reward description, but the reward is a toy.
Abilities
- Abilities like “Soothing Mist“ and “Photosynthesis” (didn’t check more) now show a weird healing range with similar numbers on their ability and aura tooltips. (at least they reflect the amount healed)
- “Stone Form” is no longer shown as an aura when active on battle pets.
Ability Slots
- “Lil’ Bonechewer“ [4500] still has the “Chew” [540] aura for the Level 2 ability slot, which should be [541].
- “Subterranean Dartswog” [4521] still has the “Croak” [931] aura for the Level 2 ability slot, which should be [932].
- WoW 20th Anniversary & SteelSeries Promo “Lil’ Flameo” [4595] still has the “Immolation” [408] aura for the Level 10 ability slot, which should be [409].
Flavor Text
- “Sir Shady Mrrgglton Junior” [4543] flavor text is missing an R on Finley’s name.
- “Ruby-Eyed Stagshell” [4581] has no flavor text.
Pet Families
- “Arathi Chicken” [4460] and “Greenlands Chicken” [4461] are considered Critters right now, shouldn’t they be Flying pets?
Pet Journal Flags
- As mentioned for the achievement, “Mister Muscoxeles” [3265] is not listed in the journal, “Hidden Until Learned” and “Hidden From Journal” right now!
- “Lil’ Bonechewer” [4500] is the reward for achievement “Worm Theory” [40869] but it only has the “Well Known” flag, so not unique and tradable.
- “Ruby-Eyed Stagshell” [4581] is the reward for achievement “A Champion’s Tour: The War Within” [40088] but it only has the “Well Known” flag, so not unique and tradable.
- “Pillarnest Bondrinker” [4513] and “Nightfarm Growthling” [4534] are from treasures but lack the “Account-Unique” and “Not Tradable” flags we usually see for these pets.
- Recently we didn’t see many tradable quest reward pets, but for TWW it feels like all of them are just “Well Known”, intended? (e.g. “Thunder” [4462], “Vanilla” [4465], “Fathom Incher” [4520], “Slim” [4542], “Cinderwold Sizzlestinger” [4570], “Rak-Ush Battleshell” [4582])
Pet Sources (Descriptions)
- “Illskitter” [4458] only mentions Drop, but nothing more.
- “Vanilla” [4465] doesn’t mention Hallowfall while other pets from quests list the zone.
- “Oop’lajax” [4470] is outdated since Alpha, should be changed to “Treasure: Scary Dark Chest” in The Ringing Deeps.
- “Shadowbog Hopper” [4472] mentions “Stillstone Pond” (and is only flagged as Drop internally), that’s not exactly helpful.
- “Caustic Oozeling” [4478] mentions Vendor, but nothing more.
- “Kaheti Bull Worm” [4502] mentions Vendor, but nothing more.
- “Fathom Incher” [4520] doesn’t mention Hallowfall while other pets from quests list the zone.
- “Slim” [4542] doesn’t mention Azj-Kahet while other pets from quests list the zone.
- “Cinderwold Sizzlestinger” [4570] lists a WQ, but is the reward for the final quest of a quest chain.
- “Ruby-Eyed Stagshell” [4581] lists “Category: World”, I guess that should be World PvP?
- “Skippy” [4495], “Venomwing” [4511], “Starkstripe Hopper” [4524], “Sandstone Ramolith” [4546], and “Brown Leafbug” [4586] mention World Vendors (very vague, but we found them on the Pet Charm Vendor and Stable Master in Dornogal) but yet with no costs (I guess these are supposed to be Polished Pet Charm purchases because we wouldn’t have any otherwise)
- “Dalaran Sewer Turtle” [4594] doesn’t list a source right now.
- “Faithful Dog” [4596] doesn’t list a source right now.
- “Wobbles” [4597] is still listed for Vendor Scritchscratch while you moved the Firelight Ruby purchases to Gnawbles.
- “Coppers” [4598] doesn’t list a source, which should also be changed to Gnawbles.
- “Bop” [4469] lists the final boss of the “Cinderbrew Meadery”, does that include Follower Dungeons? Is it in the loot table at all?
- The “Radiant Echoes” vendor pets “Remembered Riverpaw” [4450], “Remembered Construct” [4451], and “Remembered Spawn” [4452] costs are still listed with 25x ItemID 211409, while it should be 10000x CurrencyID 3089. They also have weird internal source flags (Achievement, Quest, Drop).
- (Old: We still don’t have a source listed for “Rithro” [3552])
Naming Inconsistencies (Pets, Summon Spells/Items, etc.)
Fixes are probably not always needed because players won’t see some of the summon items or spell names.
- “Mister Muskoxeles” vs. “Summon Mister Muscoxeles” (Summon Spell)
- “Rak-Ush Threadling” vs. “Baleclaw” (Summon Item)
- “Bean” vs. “Freshly Webbed Kebap” (Summon Item)
- “Bop” vs. “Cowboy Bee[DNT]” (Summon Item)
- “Pillarnest Bonedrinker” vs. “Bonedrinker” (Summon Item)
- “Vibrant Glowfly” vs. “Vibrant Firefly” (Summon Item)
- “Ruby-Eyed Stagshell” vs. “Purple Stagshell” (Summon Item)
General
- “Coppers” first got its repair option removed, now also the vendor option… why? If this loss of all former value is intended, please make it at least a (Humanoid) battle pet we can use in combat.
- Why do Pet Battle WQs appear on this weird 6-hour schedule?
- Didn’t check recently, but we had some pet-related treasures that despawned for several minutes when one player looted them. (and was still visible when respawning, so they could try to loot again and cause another despawn)
- At least the third expansion using these creature models… why do we still not have a Fungarian battle pet?
- Charms got their stack size increased to 5000, when will we see something similar for bandages?
- “Pet-sized Candle” [224643] toy just creates hilarious results, was this supposed to work with all the different models?
Maybe outdated… (didn’t check recently)
- “Hallowed Glowfly” still appeared as an uncapturable backline pet in wild pet battles while it should only drop from the Hallowfall Sparkfly.
- Sometimes, pet battles in Khaz Algar’s wild still started with single Level 1 enemy pets.
- Is the “Umbral Amalgam” [4544] now removed from wild battles’ backline pets? I guess that’s what is intended, especially when Beledar is bright.
- Are model/color variations of potential unique pets intended (e.g. “Blightbud” [4536] with its cap shape)?
- “Mind Slurped” [455197] effect doesn’t look like the intended Zombie walk on some races.
Maybe. Or maybe not. I notice Darkmoon Hatchling and Lovebird Hatchling are both critters and should also be considered flying pets.
My own impressions:
-
Man, Anduin is ugly!
-
The treasure chests, at least the ones I’ve looked at, are different. I stopped at one, which was a Dalaran Turtle, according to the mouseover. When I arrived, it was apparently a Dalaran Turtle trying to help an injured rat. It asked me to fish it up some pikefish, which I did, and it gave me nothing. I went and fished some more, it came back and was apparently impressed by another fish I caught. I gave it the fish, and it still didn’t give me anything.
-
The breeds I battle are not the breeds I get. I notice that when I’m battling a pet, Rematch tells me it’s one breed, but when it ends up in my journal, it’s another breed. Even pets that were released in previous expansions. I caught two Diamond Crabs (they were both rares, sue me). When battling them, the breed said H/S. Then they ended up in my inventory as B/B.
-
Sheep pets. And they attack with a barrage attack. I don’t even want to know what sheep are barraging me with. Don’t even tell me.
-
You’d be well-served to make the most of the gear you get while doing the memory quests. Because the gear that drops when you arrive in the new zone is utter crap by comparison.
After some time has passed, go back to the Stoneshaper’s Atrium area of Dornogal.
Where there is nothing.
Or so it seems. You’ll find a treasure icon which says, “Dalaran Sewer Turtle.” And the injured Rat he was aiding is there, along with four Turtles.
Ha-ha. A reference to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their master Splinter.
I had to right click on all four of the turtles, one at a time, before I got the reward, a Dalaran Sewer Turtle pet.
Breed unknown, but a first level one has 155 health, 11 power, 12 speed.
You may only have one of these pets, so most likely, it only comes in one breed.
ETA: What these treasures seem to be doing is basically sending you off on these little “questlings.” You fulfill the obligation that they place on you, and then you have to wait a while.
I recently found a lost sheep. I click on it, and it wanders off. This is not, however, an escort quest where you have to protect it. It just wanders off to another spot, and you go to it and click on it again. Lather, rinse, repeat until it wanders back into it’s pen.
Then as I continued to do other quests in the area, eventually a spotted another treasure chest icon in the pen where I chased to lost sheep. And I got another pet. A critter, and like the Dalaran Sewer Pet, you can only have one.
It’s a Lil’ Moss Rosy pet. Stats are H: 168, P: 8, S:12. Abilities are Hoof, Stone Shot, Bleat/Chew, Soothe, Stone Form.
These were a long-standing Easter egg going back to Wrath of the Lich King Dalaran, so in a way it’s the devs reassuring us that although Dalaran got smashed and a lot of the NPCs we knew are dead, these guys pulled through.
As well as a baby turtle battle pet, which is nice.
- The Dragonriding also seems easier. I gave up on the Dragonriding in Dragon Isles. Doing those courses is nothing but an achievement, and after trying some of them, I realized I was a lost cause and wouldn’t be able to complete these courses.
But for whatever reason, I managed to get Gold on all the Dragonriding Course on the Isle of Dorn. (Yes, most of them took a few tries, but there was one or two I managed to get Gold on first try.)
The standards seems to be lower for TWW. I even got caught on a tree in one of them but still managed to make Silver. So, if Dragonriding is important to you (like it isn’t to me), you may find this one easier. And there are more glyphs to be had.
- It wasn’t until I reached level 74 that I actually started getting better gear (or as good as) the gear I got for the Memories quests.
So, if you’re doing the world quests to get the gear, that’s time well spent, because the gear you get upon arrival in TWW is crap. You’ll have an easier time killing stuff if you get the better gear. And I wouldn’t bother trying to level it, unless you want to.
- The solo dungeons seem okay. They’re a bit slow-moving, but they don’t take long. You basically get Brann as a companion for these dungeons and you get to choose his role. Since I can’t heal much, I have him as my healer. But I don’t need him to heal, really. He seems to dish out the DPS as well as heal.
