As Advoe said, it’s been referenced a few times in-game as " Designated Sector AR-934" but yes, it is new.
The nice thing about the Isle of Dorn, is it’s just an island, not a continent. We’ve had 2 expansions now (MoP and DF) where continents were hidden from us due to magic, doing a third one, especially right after DF, would have been terribly boring and a “ugh, really?” moment. An island being found is much, much more believable. Fairly happy that 3/4 zones are underground and we only the Isle of Dorn above ground.
It definitely takes some suspension of disbelief that people with literal spaceships and floating cities can still be surprised by random landmasses in the ocean, especially substantially sized ones like Dorn.
While “a wizard hid it” is getting a bit old as far as explanations go, it’s at least more likely than “we failed to notice this island full of extremely shiny gemstone dwarves and their giant city while we were circumnavigating the globe repeatedly for the last 30 years”.
Of course, it looks like they’re about to do a “Surprise! Here’s Avalon on the other side of Azeroth!” bit despite the Army of the Light having spent the better part of a decade hovering in the upper atmosphere watching the world spin, so I guess it is what it is.
If I remember right their ship is in orbit above Stormwind meaning they don’t see much of the world below other than that View. I could be wrong but I thought I read that somewhere.
I think it’s going to be time shenanigans tbh. I’m not sure what you’ve read about it, but in the Hallowfall main questline, Faerin (sp?) mentions that the fleet was bathed in light and appeared in the cavern. There were teleported through time and space, thats my theory.
Nope. The Lothar lady was a child when they left, and they left a full fledged empire. It’s someplace else.
The thought occurred but I thought I remembered reading something in the spoilers that dismissed that idea. Guess we’ll find out. I suppose now that we have friendly Infinites that are poking at the time line, there’s room for them to have randomly decided to save a fleet of humans (/half-elves?) and shunt them forward in time a few millenia.
I guess they could just be anchored in fixed orbit, but that would be an odd choice to not at least go take a wing around the backside to see what’s there.
They don’t though. We don’t need more random islands appearing out of nowhere.
Cata bombed so Blizzard got shook on the idea of continent revamps but the Midnight and Last Titan on the horizon show that yes, you can plan a continent revamp and people be hyped for it. You just have to do it and have it not be bad.
Yeah, that’s the other thing. Draenor exists. We’ve got an entire planet they could plop more stuff on. Why do we need more garbage continents on Azeroth?
They could try and do a lost City of Atlantis moment with it. I mean if we can have mages doing floating islands in the sky and Suramar City bubbled off for millenia, could we not have the same kinds of realms hidden under the worlds oceans that are revealed with the magical and gravitational changes enacted by Sageras’ sword giving the planet more wobble than before? (I still think the oceans should be spilling over and washing away the mainlands, but I digress).
It’d make Azshara mad, but maybe she shoulda enlisted the help of some better mage bros and got in on the sunken city studies before it all went down the drain.
