Island Expedition rewards that can’t be sold (so the mounts) need to be put on a vendor or the drop chances severely increased. The way it stands now, to try and obtain the Island Thunderscale, it is impossible to farm. To have a chance at it Jorundall needs to be one of the weekly IEs as the mount ONLY drops off the thunderscales and they ONLY spawn on Jorundall. Then on top of that, every time someone ques they can’t even target specific islands so only get a 1 in 3 shot of even getting Jorundall. Then the thunderscales aren’t even a guaranteed spawn. They never “invade” or come later. Either they spawn with the island or there are none at all. This is completely different to the other mounts (pirates for the bird, undead for the mare, mogu for the eternal hound etc etc).
To then have ontop of that a drop chance equal to sha is just insanity.
I have been farming 2 days straight for it (because Jorundall is finally up in the weekly rotation) and am about to rip my hair out and cry in a corner at the thought of another IE. I. Just. Cant. Honestly I though paragon cache mounts were bad… until i’ve experienced this.
The mounts and pets and mogs NEED to be added to a vendor, having 4 layers of RNG like this is crazy.
And for the record, in 2 days stright of farming for it, I have been eligible (meaning it had a chance to drop) twice. TWICE. With a % chance of sha. Honestly I have no idea what you were thinking when you added this type of layered RNG in to the game with no way to reliably “work towards”. Even if IEs weren’t random, so I could just do Jorundall over and over, that would be better than this.
I believe there was some mention by Blizzard about putting the drops on a vendor before the end of BFA, to cover any piece of loot that the player hadn’t been able to get before IEs become defunct.
Oh my goodness if they do this I will cry from happiness (seriously I can not even explain the level of crazy and frustration I am feeling from 2 days worth of trying to farm this stupid awesome mount).
Do you have a source? I really hope it wasn’t Ion who said this because he seems to have a tendency of making promises and never following through…
There was speculation (or just wishful thinking as it turned out) that they’d do the same for the paragon mounts in Legion. I’m not holding my breath for this one to happen either.
I’m struggling to find it now, despite distinctly remembered reading it from an interview transcript. Most of my searches are being muddled up by reports of the 8.1 vendor instead
IS there any chance he did just mean the 8.1 vendor? And any chance it could just be for mog loot? (which seems silly as you can buy/trade that anyway ><
The thing is, I believe there are 250 different rewards (don’t quote me it might be more than that) so the chance of it showing up (as the usual reward off the weekly map is the currency or azerite sometimes rarely gold and even more rarely items… and then after all that it has a 1 in 250 chance.
Yea. I see what your saying. I personally like adding the loot there for bad luck protection. 1000 coins would be nice for example. Even a slot that turns into a random mount with bad luck protection would be nice. (Maybe adding some removed mounts)
This. It’s nice, in theory, that we can get rewards from the treasure map to help supplement our collection habit, but I’ve never seen a mount on one. I’m lucky if I get a green I can send off to a different character most of the time. All I seem to get are AP (which is the worst) or gold (which is the second-worst) for the most part. I got Titan Residuum once and the occasional green, but since 8.1 dropped I’ve filled the bar to get the map every week and still haven’t seen anything cool.
I do have the yeti mount that I got as a drop, but I feel your pain. My wife really wants the dragon mount from islands and that’s layered behind less RNG than the Thunderscale, but all of the mounts are so randomly unobtainable because of the nature of how they’re rolled for that it’s disheartening to even try. I like Islands, and I like that they have a lot of different cosmetic rewards that aren’t very common. But there’s a point where the most-sought-after rewards having such an abysmally low chance of even being on the loot table at all gets to be too much.
At least paragon mounts are somewhat regularly farmable, the emissaries come up on a relatively set schedule and, like previous slow farms (Invincible, Onyxia, et cetera), it’s possible to eventually get them. (I say that, but I still don’t have the unicorn mount that I really want and haven’t gotten back to the Dreamweavers to work on it at least since midway through 8.0 :P).
The island mounts, though, are randomness behind randomness, gated beyond gated. Even if there was an option to buy the random drop mounts for twice as much as the albatross (which I have), I’d take it. Two thousand doubloons for the dragon? I’d start farming for it in a heartbeat.
So it was Ion? Bah, guess that means I have zero hopes of it happening then. He has a habit of saying/promising things and then never following through.
