Hi all, been pleasantly surprised with island expeditions solo to level.
The mobs are tough but it is doable if you are well equipped and you got a bit of self sustain.
However what a find frustrating is that there seems to be one shot mechanics in there.
I was getting it by an ability called burning bite from a spider. My log shows that it was hitting me for 22 out of my 1000 hp, but I suddenly fell dead. There was also some tornado running around that might have one shot me.
That being said it’s all good when you are three, but blizzard could toi shutdown the one shot mechanic in solo queue?
Awesome job for the rest

These things are all interruptable or able to be dodged/avoided though. If you’re dying so much you’re probably either a. pulling too much or b. taking avoidable damage.
Are you able to turn your graphics up so you see spells better? There is also an addon called GTFO that alerts you when you are standing in bad spots with a loud warning if you’re unable to see spell graphics very well.
Granted, I haven’t done any since Shadowlands went live and you were able to solo queue them, but I’m assuming they are the same as they were in BFA.

Well that’s part of my problem, when I pulled the recap log on my death, I saw two melee hit for 48 damage each.
There was nothing else.
I had 1100 HP at the time hahaha.

I remember depending on your graphics settings sometimes the stuff you needed to avoid wouldn’t appear. Like the flame circles on the ground. I think there are dog like packs that need to be interrupted or the bark attack kills you quickly. You won’t see what even happened.

I put my 45 in there to see how it went. She was killing things fine, but the “enemy” was gaining points much faster than they did during BfA. It was basically unwinnable.

AH, I did not find out you could solo it until level
55
So I left shadowlands started soloing Island Expedition. Now I’m level 56. I had none of the mounts/pets, so that is why i’m trying to get them now.
At 55, as a blood DK, there is zero chance of my dying. I have no problem in out gaining the enemy except when I tried Heroic; that was no go for sure.
Heroic still wasn’t a problem to solo, as far as my survival, but the enemy just gains insanely fast. As far as non-heroic, I figured out how to not have the enemy beat me; I run around and mine a bunch of the azerite nodes before I start engaging the rares (that seems to help.) Then I go crazy on the rares.
I tried to find a guide about what exactly triggers the horde, on normal non-heroic, but could not find one (any “guide” just talks about stuff I already know.)
I’m on a “Potato” computer and have all my settings low with AOE effects “essential only.” That allows me to play well enough, at 30-56 FPS or so, while still seeing the area of effect ground stuff to step out of. This “build” is maybe 14 years old, with the only thing It can still play being Wow and perhaps FF XIV; my main gaming machine is my Xbox one (until I can finally find a Series X to buy!)
How does one get into Island Expeditions solo? (And can you just do it with 2?) I tried the other day with a friend to change things up and we ended up being queued with someone else unexpectedly. That was fine, but not what I had expected.
What am I missing?
You need to talk to the NPC I believe. For Alliance its Flynn. There should be a dialogue option something like “want to do this one my own” or something and options for normal, heroic or mythic.
Thank you! I didn’t see that option but likely I just missed it. I’ll have to check again.
Yeah, you right click on him by the Island Expedition table and it is the top one
“I’d like a private expedition.”
Then there is one for heroic too.
So you are telling me they still give good xp past 50?
Thought you couldn’t use them to level past 50

The only thing coming to mind when you say that is I remember there being a special conal attack that some mobs do (think the Mogu statues in Vale) and then there’s the “ridge” spell effect where it follows a ridged pattern you can see on the ground.
Those are gonna be brutal if you get stuck where you have to take the hit. I usually pulled so much I’d forget some of them did petrifies and such. Probably died in there 3 times for every run I ever did on my warrior
I’ve tried solo-mode islands on a couple 40-something characters and its not for everyone. My hunter did ok but my casters (mage, warlock) were not so lucky. Me thinks they need to do some fine-tuning on the solo-mode, its not fair that tank types get to wipe the place clean where as casters are canon-fodder (no pun intended).

I would not say “good”, but some.
I’m doing them for the mounts/pets.
I just got back to Wow recently, so I’m chill and always in a pretty big “rested” state
Talk to the NPC behind desk. The table is for people who wanna get que’d up with others.
I think it’s a “private tour”.
