Island Expedition loot drop too low

Why is the loot drop rate on island expeditions soooo low???
Ran so many and hardly any drops
Not even a freaking green

Ah, a question for the ages. The devs don’t want to share the specifics about island loot because they want there to be some ā€˜sense of discovery’ or some such nonsense. There are a couple of YT videos you can check out with solid theories on how to improve your chances of getting loot.

Which is why I stopped doing them over a month ago.

there’s that one island i never get loot from no matter what i kill and how much of it i kill, i’ve gotten something from the others each at least once (even if it was something small like some pants i can’t use)

idk what’s up with it either lol

It is very frustrating. I like them but I run them with my guild. They are great for leveling but the drop rate is ridiculous!!! I tried all the theories and still it is hit or miss…mainly miss.

Then couple that with the fact that they are mechanically super boring.

A dungeon that only has trash, no useful ā€œgearā€ drops (character upgrades), and just overall boring gameplay.

I was already apprehensive when I heard the word ā€œscenarioā€ … since I thought the MoP scenarios were pretty awful…but not only do they suck as much as I suspected, but somehow they exceeded my expectations on just how terrible they would be.

I sincerely hope Blizzard can capture a metric other than ā€œparticipationā€. MoP scenario ā€œparticipationā€ was really high … because it was the most efficient way to farm valor for upgrades. I don’t think anyone truly enjoyed them. At least I certainly didn’t.

Now I’m worried those of us leveling through expeditions, or collectors farming mounts/toys/etc. despite abysmal drop rates…aren’t giving them the false impression that we like this non-sense.

MAU’s may be on par (heck even higher) than Legion/etc…but player satisfaction is at an all time low. I hope they are measuring that too! It certainly doesn’t feel like it.

The toys pets etc have a drop rate that isnt even set, so in all truth, you could run them till your eyes bleed and still walk away with…azerite.

They are putting SOME on the vendors, a scant few…leaving the rest to RNG.

Not interested.

I might get the doubloons to buy the ones I want, then again we have also been told that normal IE doesnt even GIVE doubloons so you have to run it on heroic or mythic to even get them in the first place, which of course means repair bills.

Even then there isnt any gaurantee you will get doubloons because WOWhead says you have a ā€œchanceā€ to get a pouch. More RNG.

yea the loot chance is really really low…
I am currently leveling my druid using IE until 116 then I’ll switch to quests.
On normal, we do get doubloon drops but they are rare…what’s new?

I go around killing rares, open chests and sometimes get the big boss with the bis chest but almost nothing.
Only got 2 pets out of it all and one pet is a duplicate…

At least gimme some green/blue items.

Ah see, perfect example here. Yes my friend, they have an enormous loot table of covetable mounts and pets, and some rather lovely transmog weapons. The fact that you haven’t seen anything of the sort is basically Blizzard going ā€˜Tee hee, it’s a secret and I’m not telling! Keep trying though!’

I think Island Expeditions can be fun but they’re not rewarding enough for me to seek them out very often. My brother and I were running them a bunch one day… cleared a couple mythics - got jack, cleared a single heroic - got multiple pets and more doubloons than the mythic! We were like… uh WTF?

I wish there was more to them than there is.

I do them on alts, and the drop rates are awful.

And once again, Blizzard has done the double random. Loot is random by island, and random by spawn (we’re guessing, Blizzard hasn’t really said.), so there isn’t even any way to target your efforts for a drop you wanted.

So I run a lot of these, my wife and I have thus far leveled two characters each using them as the primary source of experience.
I, myself, like them quite a bit, with some caveats that they’re mostly addressing in 8.1, namely mob grouping (so they’re not just peppered across the island and you’ll actually be able to traverse it without starting an impromptu crocolisk parade) and the addition of the vendor so there’s some tangible progress metric for them at all.
Still, despite the relatively-enjoyable-yet-somewhat-mindless gameplay loop of ā€œfind some rares or quests to help NPCs, kill Azerite elemental, more rares, then the invasion raresā€ with a couple encounters with the NPCs thrown in, the loot (or lack thereof) is the sorest spot. After easily over a hundred of these things together, neither of us nor anyone that’s queued with us has gotten a single mount, and there’s been only a smattering of other rewards. A decent few pets and a lot of incredibly bland quests for bonus Azerite (ā€œsolve the riddle,ā€ it says, meaning ā€œclick on the quest and it’ll show you where to go on the mapā€), and the odd bit of iLvL 310 transmog gear. Quite often we get nothing at all, even if we ignore the Azerite monster and only target specific NPC types, which seems to be the going theory.
I don’t need a reward every time, but when the cycle of 5 or 6 goes ā€œnothing, doubloons (which do drop on normal, incidentally), nothing, rep token, nothing, nothingā€ with ā€œplate transmog pieceā€ popping up on my Warlock every now and again, I can see where people would easily get burnt out. We don’t know how, exactly, to farm or Target rewards in an explicit manner. And we don’t get them with an estimable frequency, either. We literally went about nine or ten rounds, targeting rares, and although I got a couple quest items my wife only got a couple small bags of doubloons. Nothing really worth the time, if we weren’t also leveling the characters themselves.
So like I said, I like them! But I agree, the drop rate feels too low, or too hard to estimate because it’s still quite a mystery how it even works in the first place.

Blizz have gone out of their way to be jerks with IE. I used to do them weekly for the azerite and I was totally unaware that they dropped anything at all until I got a pet recently. When my alts that were leveled later ended up only a few neck levels behind and they never went near IE I gave it away as a bad joke. Joke on us… grats Blizz.

Agreed - there should be better loot. I personally hate doing them because its non-stop key punching, which makes my hands hurt, and far too stressful for me.

Doubloons actually do drop from normals. I have 500 of them on my alt.

The drop rates are pretty bad. I would not be surprised if the mounts had a 1/2000 drop chance.

I gave up farming isles on my main and used a twink alt to farm rewards. By targeting certain types of mobs and farming more islands than I could count I eventually managed to get 18 types of pet, 3 toys, 3 mounts, and some t-mog gear.

But like I said I farmed up a lot of islands, a lot of islands… lots of islands… probably somewhere between 500 and 3,000 I lost count.

I stand corrected.

Thank you :grinning:

It is low to keep you at the trough.

add to that people want to run around kill rares only, kill everything for drops/xp or just do their own thing.
