Island Expedition- Kicked with desserter

Let me explain something to everyone here, Blizzard and customers/players. Island Expedition provides honorbound rep, artifact power, leveling experience, and gear, so a lot of people enjoy doing it on a weekly basis.

For the players, you cannot kick someone from the party because they are not playing your way. You cannot kick someone after 60 seconds into the island expedition because they are not a male or female, they’re not the right spec of class, they don’t speak your language, or if they don’t stick with the group but still do the objective.

When you kick someone, they get a godamn desserter debuff for 30minutes as if THEY were the ones that left. Either Blizzard needs to fix this debuff crap which is extremely inconvenient in so many ways, or actual penalize people for exploiting a system and getting to kick people as they see it. It’s absolute bull****.

Expedition started, mage pulled like 20 things, I as the Warlock AoE’d with him and we did great. My damage was higher, so they had no complaints. As a matter of fact, noone said a word, not even a hello. The mage and priest both rode away in a direction. I saw a rare mob, I went to kill it for the points, and before you knew it I was kicked and given a 30-minute desserter debuff. I have to work in an hour, so you have to understand how annoying this is for me. This is a bug. You are NOT supposed to get a desserter debuff for this, and it’s something that Blizzard needs to fix immediately because “vote to kick” literally says it doesn’t do that.

The “Vote to Kick” function is heavily flawed and it needs to be revised. Do you know how many articles and posts I’ve seen of people abusing this function and considering how many idiots play this game, why would it be okay for them to have the power to kick someone because they’re “Gay” right before the last dungeon boss or kick a couple because 1 of them was afk for a minute or something. These examples happen and its insane that this game just allows that to happen.

This isnt the first time this has happened, and my subscription is officially cancelled until I get a justified response from the company I spend $$$ on.

Actually, you can kick for no reason whatsoever. Blame that on the people that held groups hostage in dungeons to get kicked so they would not get a cool down. If you know of a viable way to fix the vote to kick feature then by all means share.

It’s a program and it doesn’t care about your feelings. It just runs code. X left dungeon so X gets deserter debuff. Doesn’t matter if your internet cut out or you got kicked everyone gets the deserter debuff for leaving.

You can threaten to cancel your subscription all you want it won’t change the way the vote to kick feature works. If you don’t want to get kicked then I advise you to find 2 other people to run with that are like minded.

I understand the frustration you’re experiencing and the visceral emotion of knowing that you were punished by another player for a trivial reason.

As a suggestion to those of you who have encountered this: Look for groups in the dungeon finder tool for Normal runs. They tend to be much more relaxed and less of a magnet for toxicity. -And- they tend to get you your weekly cap faster than runs in Mythic. Even groups with non-120’s!

Normal takes 2 more runs than doing heroics and heroics are brain dead easy.

Normal takes 25% less resources to win and are so much easier to mass pull rare mobs.

The complaint is legit, no reason someone should get a 30 minute deserter. Simple thing to change.

You do realize your weekly “quota,” is based off the number of resources you collect right? It’s not that normal takes 25% less, it’s that you only get credit for 25% less. So you have to do 2 more runs to complete your quota.

And actually the complaint is NOT legit. If the deserter debuff doesn’t exist, people will afk these things left and right. It’s less than a 1 minute queue on my server, no reason not to. With only a 3 person group, adding more afkers will IMMEDIATELY become a problem because if you get 2 of them, you can’t do a thing except leave.

I’ve only been kicked from ONE island expedition and now that i know more it’s obvious they were farming the rares and i wasn’t. The group didn’t want to do what i was doing. Shrug the price of pugging.

PS: I will say it’s kinda annoying no one said, hey don’t mine anything, if we kill these rares instead we might get a mount. I totally would have joined them, i’m a dedicated (if not overly successful) mount farmer.

I’ve only been kicked from people abusing vote to kick in Island Expeditions once. It’s extremely frustrating but it’s not nearly as bad as people leaving mythic + dungeons. The mythic + scene is really messed up right now with how many people are out there pathologically ruining keys that can take a lot of work to push when the affixes suck. The vote to kick feature has been around for years and it was implemented because players were abusing dungeons back in the old days when there was no deserter buff for getting kicked.

That said, I believe 2 players abusing vote to kick in an Island Expedition deserve to get punished just as someone who pathologically leaves mythic + dungeons (ie. the people who do this regularly and are basically the ones who are the real problems here) deserve to get some kind punishment or at least a warning or 3 strike system or something. Even if it they put the onus on the victims to report the problem and do most of the work to correct it, it’s better than what’s going on right now.

Yeap…

Tank: I hate this dungeon, kick me.
Rest of group: No? We don’t want to wait for another tank.
Tank: Ok, proceeds to pull everything in sight and then zone out, wiping the group. Still not gonna kick me?

Same thing happened to me. Joined an Island Expedition midway with Nïbsy-Frostmourne & Dunfalos-Frostmourne already grouped (they had obviously just kicked another person prior to me joining). They kicked me less than 5 min after joining even though I did nothing wrong, as I immediately started killing mobs & mining azerite after spawning on the boat.

People like these ruin other players’ experiences & should have their rewards removed when reported (which I did, as I waited out my 30 minute debuff). It’s not fair that just because you group with a person for an expedition that you get to randomly remove people at your whim. This has also happened to me on another character, simply because I wasn’t where the other 2 were? I can’t imagine any other reason why, since I was collecting a ton of azerite, which pisses me off even further.

I REALLY WISH I COULD SOLO or DUO-QUEUE ISLAND EXPEDITIONS and not be forced to group with such game-enjoyment ruining people.

Just adding to the database of this post that I was kicked from a island expedition too. At the beginning, I joined in as Restoration Shaman. It was asked openly and without reference for someone to DPS. The scenario starts, the other two pull mobs as their health spiked. I healed and dpsed. About 1 minute into it, I get kicked from the group. No one died and there was no performance problems. So now I have a 30 min Deserter Debuff that prevents me from queuing up for anything. That’s some MIGHTY fine programming. Get bullied and punished all in one. The only way of getting back against jerks like that is to report them under Name, Language, Spamming, or Cheating. Where’s the ruining my gaming experience or JERK where their account could be put in the cooler box for a few hours to a day?

If Blizzard suspended every jerk, they wouldn’t have a player base.

Agreed - a 30 min debuff getting kicked for doing the objective and killing rares is stupid and not right

there needs to be a timer on how often you can kick someone so they can’t spam kick ppl

I’ve been fairly fortunate to not have been kicked thus far. I usually run off and do my own thing. I try to start every instance with a “Hello!” at least. I think this helps somewhat.

What I get frustrated by in groups is when I pull a pack of mobs and the other players hit them before getting to where I wanted to control them with CC. . . They usually did and I live haha. People usually stop following me after that.

Agreed, 100%. They need to figure out a way to treat islands differently from dungeons, so getting kicked doesn’t give the debuff. Or at least add character names to the azerite tally in the chat . I’ve been kicked with no warning from a few groups, presumably because I’m not “sticking with the group”, but I’ve nearly always collected more than both other people put together. At least once I know I’ve appeared offline when I wasn’t, because someone actually asked instead of just voting to kick. It really sucks to have a 30min debuff when all I want to do is run a couple islands before bed, especially if it’s because a glitch makes me appear offline. Really, a deserter debuff should be for when you CHOOSE to leave an instance, not for when other people kick you from it.

Blizzard,

This isn’t rocket science. A couple lousy nested IF statements will fix this;

If = ‘Island Expedition’ then

If [player to kick azerite] = 0 OR [player to kick contribution] < [some percentage of current total contribution] then

   kick<player, penalty>

else

  kick<player, nopenalty>
 reduceIEcontribution<amount player kicked contributed>

end

end

There, your AFK abusers can still be kicked with penalty, while people trying are not punished because the two others wanted to ‘insert reason’. It also gives the other player who didn’t initiate the kick reason to think before saying yes because the total contribution will be reduced by what the player being kicked contributed.

This is a really great idea. Remove the contribution from the total tally and lower the deserter buff by how much the kicked person contributed, so troll kicking for no good reason is discouraged.

On my DH i start every heroic with, i’ll be pulling large groups guys, if you decide to help me be very careful or you will die.

I have macro for this, generally it keeps things kosher.

No it’s a really BAD idea. Just because someone is contributing doesn’t mean they aren’t trolling. Or being abusive in chat. More importantly, how do you decide who gets credit? Killing blow? Just on the agroo table?

So if some troll is dragging huge groups of those fearing monkeys or basilisks onto you trying to kill you over and over do they get credit for everything you kill? Then when you kick them the Alliance is winning now? There are so many ways for this system to be worked…
