I just finished watching the movie, “The Menu” and when they keep saying “YES, CHEF,” it instantly reminded me of the soup event in Iskaara.
No its a high-end restaurant thing, also its funny
I assumed it was just something that cooks say to chefs and was popularized by Hell’s Kitchen and other of Gordon Ramsey’s shows.
It’s been a thing in serious kitchens for a long time. Made more famous by Gordon Ramsay’s American shows I suppose, unless there’s something that predates those that I’m not thinking about.
The Menu was fantastic by the way.
Chef Gordon Ramsay.
This is basically it imo. Its something said in general in that line of work. And statistically, Gordan Ramsay is most likely where a dev/etc heard it to implement it in the community feast.
It’s more of a standard industry practice. Chef is a title so it’s both an acknowledgement of title as well as acknowledgement that what was said was heard.
Its also like the movie Waiting.
A complete clown show.
lol
It most certainly is not.
100% not just a Gordon Ramsey thing, existed in kitchens long before him. Grew up watching a brit com called “Chef!” with Lenny Henry in it. It was a well known enough phrase to be used in that comedy, so I feel like Ramsey didn’t “popularize it” either.
Reminds me of The Bear.
If anyone’s looking for a good show to binge, I recommend it. Don’t let the title fool you. It’s a very good depiction of what life in a stressful kitchen feels like.
You ever get shot during dinner rush?
As some one who works in a commercial (restaurant ) kitchen
Yes chef is a standard reply when given a command by the Chef on duty (ie kitchen manager) .
It indicates to the chef that you heard and acknowledge what he/she said
lol
No.
No, it isn’t.
No.
I’m just disagreeing with the incredibly stupid and offensive comparison.
This was common at the Chipotle I used to work at…
Customer: Cilantro Rice please
Chipotle Employee: Yes, chef!
Customer:
You have time to delete your stupid response bro. The cook at dennys doesnt compare to any military job
