Is Wowhead safe to use on a smartphone?

I’ve heard Wowhead has a lot of malware and after looking up on google “is wowhead safe?” I saw that it’s not. Will I be okay if I use my IPhone to use it and not my actual computer? Or will it infect my IPhone with malware

Thanks

Mobile should be fine but I’m pretty sure WoWhead causes a memory leak on my PC and I’m now actively avoiding leaving any tabs open from I’m that site. If I leave for a few hours and come back my PC will be almost rigor mortis if that site has remained open the whole time.

Use adblock and noscript etc.

Is this a real question?

Interesting. I too have found my computer to become 10 years older if I have had a wowhead tab open for an afternoon while doing other things on the computer.

Do you really have bearhands?

is this available for mobile chrome? if not, any other recommended browsers?
i stay away from that site on my phone to avoid potential overages of my datacap. i’ve had problems in the past because of it, but thats because i foolishly left it open.

Wowhead’s super laggy on my phone

I googled “Is wowhead safe” and the top return is a forum post from 3 years ago asking… “Is wowhead safe” with a couple responses from random internet people saying stuff like “I heard it’s sometimes bad.” Theres a couple other reddit threads from the last 6-10 years of the internet where people also asked “is wowhead bad” and random internet people said “I heard its sometimes bad.” which is probably where the first people heard about it. And one day in the future someone somewhere will google “is wowhead bad” and they’ll see this thread, with random people referring to other threads where they also heard Wowhead is sometimes bad. And its just malware all the way down.

I’m either a bear who’s really good at writing or a human who’s really bad at it, take your pick. :man_shrugging:t2: :woman_shrugging:t2: :teddy_bear:

The main security issue with WoWHead, like most other websites, lies in the advertisements they run (but don’t necessarily have control over). If you’re concerned, use an ad blocker or get a device to run PiHole on.

A note as well, WoWHead ads refresh in 10-second intervals and likely contribute to those who have slowdown issues after leaving the site up for long periods of time.

Ngl, wowhead premium is 1$ a month and let me tell you how smooth it becomes when you pay lol. Seriously tho, its worth the dollar. Especially if you use it alot for profiler options etc etc.

If you don’t have a pop-up blocker you are really throwing the dice on malware and ransom-ware. I don’t dare get near wowhead without protection because its a dirty dirty site.

There is an actual adblock browser, I’ve had decent experience with it. You can get it from the Google play store.

A lot of sites that used to be absolutely horrible and pop up random windows and other crap work much better on that browser.

What? I haven’t seen a pop-up in like 10 years.

I have not dared brows that site without an add blocker in over a decade and I will never go back there without one because that site is very sketchy.

It does not matter how much they claim to have cleaned things up, I distrust them forever.

Its not what you see, its what you dont see. Wowhead is totaly selling every scrap of information they can find on you. And god help you if you attempt to use an Adblocker on their site … the send so many false positives through the filter that its almost enough to crash your browser. Yet they hide all that traffic if you bring up the developer window.

Wowhead is toxic … if your not using BOTH Adblock and NoScript/ScriptSafe … your doing it wrong.

If you get malware, just squeeze your phone with your muscles until the malware taps out.

So is google, facebook and Instagram. So is your grocery store. So is the DMV. Welcome to the 21st century.

Just by landing on my site I can see how you got there, what browser you’re using and where you live. If I can get you to login through google and/or facebook, I can now see your name, age, sex, your favorite music, where your family lives, what you search for the most etc etc. And that’s all legal and basically free…

So how much do you really think Wowhead is selling information on the “most searched items in world of warcraft?” Their revenue is based off ads. Some bad ads inevitably slip through out of millions shown (and thats usually on google or the ad provider, not the site.) Wowhead is not “selling your information.”
