WoW is not my favorite game. That honor belongs to “Shantae: Half-Genie Hero”

Props to WoW for all of it’s achievements. The game is generally gorgeous (as long as you avoid the vanilla zones lol), there’s always new content and even when WoW is bad, it’s still pretty good (like pizza!)
But I was born in 2D platformers and I’ll die in 2D platformers lol
WoW sits outside of my rankings. I’ve played it so long, and has gone through so many iterations, it just stands alone. It’s a hobby, not a game. It goes without saying that it means a lot to me.
Favourite game historically though, is Morrowind. That game was incredible. Horrible graphics and combat, but just such an incredible world and storyline. It also just happened to come along at a key time in my life. I’d just finished high school in 2003, and found myself with a lot of free time. I poured hundreds of hours into that game. Which pales in comparison to WoW of course, but at the time was unheard of for me. I was also obsessed with the album Absolution by Muse, which had recently come out. I had it basically on repeat for a lot of my play time. So the two are utterly entwined in my nostalgia.
Picking a favorite game is tough. Too many games are too different to each other to really rank against each other fairly.
In terms of “I liked it enough to play it a lot”, yeah, it’s obviously my favorite. I’ve put more time into it than anything else by far.
Behind it would probably be Halo 2 and 3 in that case, which I played almost exclusively for 3 years each.
But then there’s games like Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. I have zero reason to continually replay that game. I’ve played it once and got what it offered, and played it again because I loved it so much, but it’s not a game built on replayability, so I have like 15 total hours in it.
Yet if you asked me specifically for my favorite singleplayer / story game, it’d be that.
And if we mean specifically right this moment, then no, WoW actually ranks pretty low on my list. It’d end up being something like Lethal Company if asked for my favorite multiplayer game.
Or Starbound if asked for an RPG, which (barely counts and is closer to that because of mods).
2nd was my favorite, but I felt that the 3rd had the best combat and that the 60-80 hours of ME3 upto Star Brat were really good. Star Brat and the RGB ending was very meh, but I didn’t feel like it ruined everything. And I think the extended cut helped fix a lot of things, though Star Brat still sucked.
Oh and I was big on the ME3 Co-op multiplayer for a while, that was a ton of fun
I also enjoy Destiny 2. The Pokémon series. Recently been playing Cyberpunk and the Hogwarts game.
My favorites from way back in the day are the Spyro series, Halo, and a RPG called Vampire the Masquerade- Bloodlines. Recently been having a bunch of obscure games I used to play a lot coming to mind, I watched a YouTube video about a game I used to play called Sudeki.
I don’t know why I can’t get back into it. I really enjoyed the Witch Queen, but I can’t get back into D2 after Lightfall. My Titan doesn’t even have Strand yet and I haven’t completed any of the LF seasons.
I want to play Final Shape if Bungie stops delaying it but I can’t get into it like I used to during Witch Queen.
I have been playing a bit this season. Last season I finished my battle pass but prior to that, I did not. Destiny 2 is the kind of game I will binge and then put down for a while. Which is fine. I know how it goes, sometimes you can’t get into it. I sometimes log in, see my ship in orbit, and decide I don’t feel like waiting to load into a destination.
But my god the weapons are so fun, smashing stuff as a Titan and Warlock are so fun. I love using my Le Monarque (sp?) a lot.
Last time I binge played, I unlocked Stasis and Strand on my hunter and Titan alts.
I find WoW to be like comfort food, something that you can always enjoy (with various degrees depending on expansions). As for my favorite game I would say Crusader Kings 3.
