Is WoW this poorly optimized?

I’m getting around 100 fps fluctuating in the Dragon Isles, all settings max, ray tracing, at 4K.

My GPU is being utilized at 50%.
My CPU at 40%. All cores sitting around 30-40% utilization.

I can turn ray tracing off and get ~110 fps, but then I’m down to 40% GPU utilization.

This seems ridiculous.

RTX 4090, i5 10600K OC’d, 32GB RAM, SSD, etc.
And my computer has been highly configured.

Is WoW this poorly optimized? Do we need a sequel with better base code?

Many games don’t run awesome at 4k.

The engine is upgraded every expansion.

Only thing I have to say it is your choice to run the game at max at 100 fps. You can adjust the settings to your needs. I never play this game at 100fps with those settings.

If memory serves, the biggest problem WoW’s engine has is that the bulk of the process still relies on a single core (it offloads some work to like 2 or 3 additional cores if possible, but it’s very little IIRC), so if you have a 4+ core processor, a lot of that power is being barely used at best.

Wow. That’s amazing. I wish my computer could run more than 20-25 fps, but it usually never does.

I admit to not knowing a lot about computer things, but I run about 55-60 fps pretty regular and don’t have any issues. I rarely see lag or any other issues except during huge events and even then it’s pretty rare. /shrug

Thinking back over the years, I’m struggling to think of an example of a game where migrating to a whole new engine increased performance.

But I assume if WoW ever did attempt a full-engine swap/sequel, they’d want to use the engine Overwatch uses?

How does the complexity of the environment/mechanics/clutter in that game compare to what would be expected of WoW?

you got that cinematic experience

Ehh this expansion has actually been kinda :poop: as far as optimization goes. I wonder if that stuttering thread is still up over on tech support

I run at like 140 fps in the world and i have 2080 lol

Well, that GPU alone cost me $2000 and I don’t make a lot of money, so it’s kind of expected.

I can’t help myself though. I’m obsessed with having a great gaming experience.
