I played the Classic demo and never went back to BFA. But today I was thinking about it and it hit me that I hate FPS, and so many characteristics of WOW are now based around that sort of play.
Is it just me? Or is WOW now a FPS?
I’m waiting til Summer to play again.

It’s not first person and there’s no ‘shooting’; very few spells require you to aim.
So I’m going to say no, it’s not an FPS.
It’s certainly not an old-school RPG anymore, but it’s an ARPG now (like Diablo), not an FPS.

Maybe not an FPS, but it’s definitely more of an “action” RPG than it used to be. Class design has been focused more on “hitting as many buttons as quickly as possible” instead of conserving mana and performing smart, well-timed rotations. A big culprit here is the concept of “a chance to reset X cooldown when Y happens.” It turned many classes into a proc-fest. Spells have short cast times, enemies in most solo content have short health bars, players have more self-sustain than ever before, more and more boss and trash mob abilities are based on covering the ground with damage zones, etc. etc.
You’re not too far off, frankly.
It’s not first person and it’s not a shooter. So I’m going to go with no.

Not even in the ballpark.
What drugs are you on, and why aren’t you sharing with the rest of the class?

Maybe not. But in Classic you log in, maybe do some RP, talk to some people, do some quests and in general just run around doing stuff like mining, fishing, leveling professions.
In BFA, you log in, hit the LFR or LFG and wait a few minutes (or longer if you’re not lucky), then go wherever it takes you and kill as many things as you can as fast as you can. When you’re done, you collect your loot, and do it again. Or you take a run over to today’s WQs and do the same thing - find something and kill at as much as you can, then collect loot.
Maybe it’s not a FPS, but it’s sure not the same game. And I didn’t really realize it until I played the Classic demo …
