Is WoW brain dead EZ?

First off I am really enjoying the game. The wpvp is great and the social environment is very nice. Every class is truly unique in what they bring to a group.

BUT! Damn near every dungeon I’ve ran, which is up to lvl55 since WoW’s classic has been out, has been brain dead easy. Warriors tank in arm/fury spec in arm/fury stance, while pulling 2-3 groups at a time while all other DPS players use their AoE abilities. No one uses CC. I have not seen 1 rogue spec into improved sap, so seeing rogues sap is non-existent.

I use to play during classic. Warriors always used a shield, mages always used sheep, rogues were expected to sap. You never pulled more than one group or your team died. In ZF I’ve seen players pull damn near 10 groups and aoe them down.

I’m enjoying the game greatly, but it’s brain dead easy. The game is on par with Minecraft in terms of difficulty, if not easier. Bosses have no mechanic so every boss is a tank and spank. Many groups I play with use all mages/warlocks and AoE multiple groups down. People just laugh at the idea of needing a tank, and if a tank class is around they laugh at specing as a tank.

Did something change in the code? Was everyone just bad during classic? Or is my memory of classic just off. All I see in town chat is people looking for AoE group farms. I have friends who are raiding and are not even level 60 and wearing leveling gear! Was this clown fiesta normal in classic?

To answer your question succinctly, yes.

It’s a collection game now. Anyone saying otherwise is new or in denial. Don’t waste your time doing any hard content, they’ll just give you the gear for free 3 months later.

Welcome to an RPG, where your success or failure is based as much or more on how you’ve grown your character than how good your twitch abilities are

Its a combo. Old schoolers know more about their spec, but it also seemed they toned it down for retail engagement. I dont really hate this. Challenging my ability to tank with speed is something I’ve done since wrath.

While there may be merit to spending 2hrs in WC, its not going to populate the server. Classic was first and foremost a social engine. Remove the social, you have no game. So if the classic adjustments make for a slightly more inviting classic, im happy to teach other tanks to speed run.

Most RPGs can be made to have very easy combat by simply building a character the right way. It’s kind of the nature of RPGs, as a good portion of the skill is supposed to be derived from the character’s stats and not the player.

Though I’m sure at some point somebody will come along claiming it’s only because it’s 1.12 and nerfed and that “real” Vanilla was 1000x harder, or something.

classic was a sandbox, not a parsing simulator. Dungeons, in particular those under max level, did not assume everyone would be a highly optimized max gearscore diablo player with a patreon subscription to a dungeon rating tracking addon.

It was an rpg.

I pretty much stopped doing dungeons because it was mostly about herding cats.

I will say this one last time cause I’m sick of saying it even though people have a hard time looking at what patch classic is on.

Classic WoW is on patch 1.12, which is basically almost the pre patch for TBC (4 months from the release of TBC), which by then every class is buffed in their regards.

To sum it up

MC was released on patch 1.1
BWL was released on patch 1.6 (if I can remember correctly)
Naxx was released on patch 1.12

The difference between patch 1.1 and 1.12 is 2 years, that is why you are seeing people do things you couldn’t do in patch 1.1 to 1.6 cause classes were still being worked on/buffed.

It seems my experience is not unique. I have grown a lot as a player from my early days of WoW when I was in elementary school. I guess I will accept this AoE farm dungeon/EZ mode raiding as what classic really was. Not this intense hardcore experience my mind made it out to be.

It was viewed as more casual than Everquest at the time. So if you wanted an intense hardcore experience you wouldn’t have been playing WoW :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s not brain dead, but I do remember people did need to CC more and tanking without a shield never happened during the original vanilla.

If people went into a dungeon over leveled and over geared in vanilla and never thought to just 2 hand brute their way through, then we truly didn’t know much back then

No, not WoW. Only Classic is.

I got a quest pointer into Blackfathoms deep recently, when I was level 17 or 18. In Vanilla, I would have gone into the dungeon right away.

In Classic, groups won’t take you unless you’re level 24. Being six levels higher probably at least doubles your power. That’s ignoring the fact that I’m better geared for my level this time around, as I know the available gear better.

I don’t think the changes were in the code.

This.

I was level 26 when I did BFD. Of course it was easy.

From caster perspective: all the +spell dmg +shadow damage gear did not exist until later patches. But we get it right away now which makes a typical leveling caster a lot stronger than before.

Knowledge over the years and 1.12 itemization create much stronger players.

The Scarlet mobs in Strat live have only around 7k HP on average, and my shadowbolt hit for 900 (and I just dinged 60 within 24 hours. Imagine in raid gears). Now times that kind of damage by 3 and most mobs just fold over. I rarely ever be able to cast more than 3 bolts before it’s dead if we’re focus firing (which we should).

Glad you’re enjoying retail, when you get a Classic character to play Classic please feel free to come back and make argued critcisms from a point of having actually playerd it.

Thank you.

Agreed…people aren’t doing it on level for the most part. Otoh, I also was told there was no way I could solo AT ALL, aside from possibly as a Hunter, anywhere after like lvl 10. Naw. Still doing it in the late 20s. Enjoying the nostalgia is really all there is for me in this. Thats all we get.
