I stopped playing a little while ago but I’d be willing to come back if I could easily catch up with my alts.
I saw that the essences are account bound but I’m assuming you would still need to level your cloak every week. Am I right?
Essence aren’t really account bound. It’s more of a borked psudo catch up system.

At moment it’s 100% exp buff … so if you want to level some alts … there you go

Rested Exp, 100% bonus exp, Warmode, Exp Potion (BoA), Zen Pilgrimage Panderan = lv 120 in 10 minutes (based on boasting of the forums. Would be closer to 3 days realtime, though.)
Drop Panda, add a day. Drop Monk, add two days. Drop pathfinder, add a week. Drop anything else, roll a DK for best results.

In all seriousness though… I guess it depends on what you want and expect. In my opinion, the game is more alt friendly than it’s ever been. So many new races to choose from, It’s easy and fun to level up anything, and even get it geared up to a reasonable degree very quickly.
I guess if you want to push high end anything, it might be a problem. I mean all this nonsense with essences, corruption and all that… I couldn’t even be bothered with it on my so called main, really.
Well, you don’t NEED to level your cloak each week; You can if you want.
I don’t think it’s alt friendly but I think they are giving us the exp boost to get them to at least 120 so that when SL comes we can play them in hopefully a more alt friendly environment

It’s alt friendly with a caveat. If you have a main that you’ve kept current, it’s pretty alt friendly. The only thing you have to worry about is the cloak. The essences will sort themselves out quickly if you’re spamming visions to upgrade your cloak.
If you are returning with no essences, it’s the same old terrible system people have been complaining about since 8.2 with the cloak stuff stacked on top of it.
It depends I suppose. If you are a type that wants to be on the cutting edge of content and have the best of the best then no.
If you are like me and don’t care about such things then yes, WoW is very alt friendly.
Its alt friendly up to level 120 then the game becomes an annoying grind fest.
