Is the LFG tool for WotLK looking better than what we have now? I’ve been using the TBC built in group finder, LFG channel, and a LFG bulletin board addon, but posting in all three of these for an hour I’m getting nowhere finding dungeon groups.
The LFG tool that’s going to be added into WotLK Classic is pretty much the LFG tool from retail so base your opinion off that.
I don’t play retail, I have no idea how that works.
So basically “No, not much”. The true difference is that you can’t join LFG without being on it, which was a restriction in TBC and Wrath the first time.
And back then servers just made their own LFG channel to overcome this.
It adds some visuals and that’s about it. Still have to type in notes, which is bad design. Still have to whisper “inv”, which is bad design. It’ll probably be used less than addons that do the same thing already after people realize the shortcomings.
But the bare minimum is what we get. Retail expansion is out 2-3 months after Wrath comes out (If they are both on time). That’s clearly where they put their dwindling dev work hours.
Most peoples notes amounted to “healer” which you can select yourself now from Tank, Healer, and DPS.
No you don’t, see the big old “request to join” button?
They added that button, which is a step in the right direction.
The notes bit is to show what spec you are if your class has multiple dps specs.
For example, “Prot warrior” will not get invites because of player stigma and perception. Choose your spec from the tier lists, people. Dead specs are dead.
Did you even bother looking at the modern tool they’re basing it off of?
Yes, you need to put “enh” or whatever, but you need to do that in the modern tool too, could it be better? Sure, is it worth lamenting about, not really.
It will be better than what is available now. It will not solve the problems that the original lfd tool eventually did. Actually the original lfd did not solve the problems, blizz had to make changes to the restriction of only being able to run the same heroic 1 time per day. They also had to offer bonus rewards to tanks and healers during high demand.
They would need to do that again. But i dont think they will. Back then they reckognised the long que times that players were complaining about. They wanted to try ideas to help shorten them. There have been those same complaints now in tbc classic and they have done nothing. Playets mass transfered to mega servers and more ended up quitting classic tbc. BLIZZ still has done nothing. So with them being ok with the results of tbc classic, i dont see this changing for wotlk. It is always possible that the people in charge get replaced with people that want to help get the players able to play together so you never know.
So the results wont be better, but the tool is actually better than what is available now.
You think a group with 3 dps and a healer getting a whisper from a prot warrior asking to tank and the group is going to say no?
Yep. People think Prot Warrior is so bad it’s useless, when it’s not.
The overall point is that non-meta specs will be exluded. It’s an exclusionary tool that caters to only part of the playerbase. RDF is dead now, it doesn’t matter. Apathy will set in for players as they realize Blizzard doesn’t really care about classic, and then it’s in trouble. /shrug
“Prot warrior” will get instant invites even if they are foolish enough to not form thier own group.
Prot warrior in wotlk is the best 5 man heroic tank for all of the expansion. Of course they are not the best raid boss tank amd with bkizz annoumcing they will be making the 5 man heroics more challenging throughout the expansion, this could change depending on how the challenge is implemented. But i am betting any challenge mode they add to heroics will fall even more into the strength of warrior tanks in 5 mans.
The playerbase today does tend to listen every stupid thing that thier favorite streamer tells them but tanking is so easy in wotlk that it will be hard to find a bad tank.
There will still be a shortage of tanks. Dual spec did not solve that. So the shortage of tanks and when ppl start seeing that all tanks are pretty much identical in wotlk, war tanks will be in high demand.
However. The idiocy of the wow playerbase has no bounds, so you could turn out to be 100% correct.
You can’t really think, of all classes, people will be actively excluding Prot Warriors from 5 mans. Doesn’t sound like you play much…
Beta testers, including one of the community council, are saying the Request to Join button is crap. All it does is bring up a general “Person has requested to join” to the group leader, with zero info on class, spec, role.
Here’s hoping they make it actually functional and not worse than the BB addon.
Hard to be worse than that, BB is just a LFG channel parsing addon that often screws up where things go anyway.
