I have been looking for a good melee alt and it was a toss up between warrior and DK, so I thought coming to the community to get opinions on all of it would help.
It depends on what level of keys you are wanting to run, 13 and lower you will be fine, 14 might see some problem but 15 any higher the rate of warriors being in the group falls off dramatically.
According to the data the meta for the highest keys tends to be, vengeance demon hunter, balance druid, unhoiy dark knight, disc priest and arcane mage. And due to trickle down meta specs, a lot of people tend to want those specs in their sub 15 keys as well.
I canât personally speak for arms, but has fury i feel the 5 target limit cap in the bigger pulls against classes donât have hard caps like that. And one of our capstone talents which should be king in aoe situations like mythic+ (Odynâs fury) is kinda dogwater and we donât even take a lot of our capstone talents.
In Pugs? Not really. That doesnât mean success canât be found. For Prot you have players like Sense pushing 17s and 18s.
For DPS you kind of need a very optimal team composition focused around physical damage. For MDI time trials there were a few 19s time as Fury. Critcake also had been doing 17-18 keys as Arms.
Warrior can work at high keys, but compositions and routes need to take them into account.
But if youâre pushing high keys, chances are you have a static group to play with anyway.
Whatâs your definition of âhigh keysâ?
Because on your shaman youâre posting on your highest keys are 7s and 9s. Which is fine, not everyone plays the content the same pace or difficulty.
But for your level assuming that is your definition of âhigh keysâ, then yes warrior will be fine. You might not be meta, but youâll be able to compete well enough that youâre not a hard carry to the group.
Play what you find more fun out of those two alts and youâll have a better time as a result.
I figured anything above 10 is high key to me haha
I just have been looking for a melee alt for a while now and canât seem to find the right one for me.
Not my cups of tea:
UH DK
WW Monk
Feral Druid (Too overwhelming with buttons for me haha)
Any rogue (not my playstyle in the stlightest)
Enh shaman
Possibly my cup of tea:
Warrior (class fantasy is pretty cool!)
DH (awesome class fantasy but everyone in my parties say not the greatest)
Frost DK (Looks awesome haha)
Ret Paladin (Looks cool but isnât really my playstyle)
I am having a melee identity crisis haha
If your goal is something between 2.5~3k (so +10âs to +13âs) anything works fine, sure some needs more gear than others.
The real pain is getting invited into pug groups playing a freaking Fury Warrior hahaha.
Then yes youâll be fine to pick a warrior however just keep in mind that if youâre playing as dps youâll have to learn and play both dps specs as season to season balance changes will change which m+ builds are more accepted by the community, but running your own keys circumvents the pug gate.
Iâd also say to expect to also tank at times as protection too, to make your life easier if youâre wanting to speed up filling the weekly depression box with weekly keys.
However Iâve noticed you donât have Survival as a potential option in your list. Imo SV is one of the most fun melee dps specs in the game, damage wise itâs almost always got competitive raid and m+ builds but it does suffer the stigma of sharing with bm/mm but having alted once since legion i can confidently say there hasnt really been a season iâve felt that SV has been lacking in fun or performance.
Despite some questionable class tree design, and honestly downright stupid tuning in our spec tree I would say Fury is still fairly fun to play at the moment. Especially if youâre new to the spec.
But this quote right here also. Being a dps is troublesome even if youâre a meta class, and being a fury warrior you need to expect to be one of the last choices that someone will bring to their key. Be comfortable running your own, or be willing to play LFG simulator for 40 minutes every night.
I tried SV and didnât really like it too much, I forgot to add in the list lol I love my MM Hunter though!
We are crap in anything past +12âs.really 9. You canât be a warrior alt you have to main them. we have like a 3 button filler and are actually filler is useless slam. We have no actual rotation and bunch of useless buttons. None of are cds line up and we get 10% hp every 3 mins. you have to find the one pixel to stand on and your dps is very dependent on how well the tank can keep mobs in your 5 yard cleave range. you have to be super sweety 24/7 and twice as good as any else to do mediocre damage.
The skill cap is all about up time on the target because we have no kite and we get rage starved when we canât auto attack. We have been completely neutered no disarm or fear and CDs donât really help in mythic+. you make one mistake and your died.
I could top the dps charts back in Icc 25m heroic on my 13 inch MacBook with dedicated cpu graphics in 8th grade on my warlock. Now that Iâm nearly 30 and have all the best pc parts. I have to get super sweaty to do a mediocre 2.5m dps. With razor naga.
Pick a dk or a paladin hell even a rouge unless you want to play the game on survival mode. They are much more forgiving have utility and do damage from far away. donât pick to be a magicaless person in a world full of magic. being a warrior is like being in a bad anime and were you are comedic relief and some side character. itâs probably the hardest class to play despite being a simple ârotationâ. Enhament.
Even I look at furry warriors and go ew. you need to be pared with a Dk and shaman for 20% of an extra auto attack. if you havenât done melee before I wouldnât go warrior. compare to something like a warlock itâs apply dots and spam your filler/big attack donât stand in the fire. a warrior you have find that one pixel of space to still do damage and if your tank isnât the most aware and optimizing position for you Will suffer and will have casters and hunters with ranged interrupts yell at you for not kicking. despite having bunch of 1 shot aoe on the ground. I mean you can do fine in mythic 9 maybe even top dps despite be way overgeared then everyone else and doing the same damage being super sweaty.
You have to be aware of everything and need a bunch of weak auras to play the class properly.
As much as your post hurt my brain to read, I hate to say it. Youâre not wrong, for the most part. There are a fair amount of exaggerations here, but the basis of it is still accurate.
TL:DR - Youâre out of line, but youâre right.
