I typically play on WrA and MG, have been for years. ED was a great place for me to jump in and do some world PvP occasionally, but after War Mode got introduced, it all seemed to die down.
I’m back for TWW, and turning on War Mode anywhere on an RP server seems to be completely void of activity. Do I need to roll on a normal server to get WPvP at this point?
You really need to get on Classic. Unfortunately I can’t really recommend Grobbulus because the pops are not balanced. Either SoD or Expanded Classic is going to be where the people are.
I was playing SoD in season 1, but I took an extended break until recently. I’m really looking more into the retail side of things for the moment, but I’ll be sure to check out classic again in the coming months.
I really like the state of both versions right now for the most part. I just don’t balance them well at the same time, so I take turns between the two.
I used to play exclusive on Emerald Dream. Back when it was an RP-PvP server it was great. Relatively equal H-A ratio, and lots of PvP events going on. Hell, it was easy to just accidentally stumble into organic wPvP in a leveling zone.
Even after the switch to War Mode I never had too much issue finding fights with the opposite faction. It was great in BFA, but then in SL it got a little worse, likely due to there being no zone assault / defense events. In Dragonflight it was rough. I’d only find fights at the PvP world quests or chests, and even then sometimes chests were completely uncontested midway through the expansion.
I know it’s end of prepatch and the game isn’t at its full player count yet, but my characters still on Emerald Dream, I never run into PvP at all in the world. I don’t even see people dueling outside Orgrimmar or in Goldshire.
I think you’ll have to weigh your options and decide whether wPvP encounters or RP encounters matter more, because right now I think it’s hard to find both. You might have access to both on RP servers early in the expansion; a lot of people may come back to the game and try to get that ball rolling again, but ultimately I’d expect it to die down in short order.
I play on Stormrage now and these are the servers I most often see in the world:
Sargeras | Area 52 | Illidan | occasionally I see Tichondrius. These are all, to my understanding, PvP-oriented servers. I’d shoot any of these out as recommendations. Good luck!
It’s like going to the desert as a bear Hunter. There are “some” like the Gobi bear, but a serious bear Hunter will go where the serious bear pops are.
Damn, that’s a shame. I’ll probably spin up a character on one of the major PvP servers then. I really miss the ED culture though. RP servers have that extra something that I really miss whenever I’m not on them.

Totally agree. I never really got into RP, but was always sure to be mindful not to ruin anyone’s RP sessions, and it honestly made me happy to see so many people really enjoying the game. I saw more organized wPvP at scale on RP servers than ever before and it was a blast. I too will miss those moments dearly.
Those servers are my “safe” suggestions. For all I know, wPvP and the people that love it may come back in-earnest on RP servers and we may enter another wPvP golden age so I wouldn’t discount it entirely! I just know the servers I generally get thrown in with in War Mode are full of PvP focused players. I’m pretty sure even among the legacy PvP servers before war mode, things like Illidan / Area 52 / Zul’jin were major Horde PvP servers and Stormage / Sargeras / Tichondrius were major Alliance PvP servers.

Finding it in the wild isn’t so frequent, but if you commit to hunting down the war chest drops, you will find world PvP easily. Provided one faction isn’t dominating the scene at the moment. Every war chest I’ve gone to has had some type of skirmish except when it was essentially becoming 10v2.
I just fly to the PVP world quest area and murder people there.
Most chests on Emerald Dream have been uncontested. I’ve gotten dozens of chests and only maybe 3-4 had a fun skirmish around them sadly.
