Is Venthyr Safe for Enhancement?

Looking at the best sims for all of the enhancement covenants venthyr is looking to be the best overall, I’m afraid that if I pick this then it will be nerfed in the next patch and I have to start all over. Should I be afraid of this or do you think they will just buff all the other covenants?

They are going to continually nerf and buff all 4 covenants. Just pick one that looks cool, at least for now.

Well I want to perform the best I can (somehow convinced my guild leader to let me roll one for raids) and I want to show him that I can kinda be useful too, but if our covenant gets nerfed by a large portion then I don’t want to be left in the dust and have to respec/reroll.

Unfortunately the answer Beezik gave is just about right. There’s likely (not guaranteed) to be more balancing with covenants as the weeks go on here, but currently Venthyr is a safe pick for enh.

Also sims aren’t ironed out at all yet so take those with a grain of salt.

None are a safe pick. Thats the honest truth. All could be nerfed at a moments notice. Either be prepared to have to change, or accept that your guild may have to be a little soft on requiring the “best” covenants

Well with rolling an enhancement shaman instead of resto I have to make up for a pretty large margin since my guild is aiming for realm first or close as we can to it.

Put it this way. If having to swap to a different covenant means you’re no longer able to play Enh in your guild then you probably shouldn’t play it in the first place. That’s how unsafe it is.

Even with the best covenant I don’t think ENH is a top tier spec for progression dps

I agree but I said that my utility was too much to pass up since we have a quite a few rogues, warriors, and dk. I also said we get the windrush totem to help speed up the whole raid when needed, also got those on demand big heals. Added dps/healing is just nice for venthyr tho…

Did some research and it looks like a safe pick if you like it. Chain Harvest works with Maelstorm Weapon and Door of Shadows does not. So it should be decent and non-intrusive in gameplay. The soulbinds seem only good with Nadjia though. Duke is meh, Graven is bad. So if you pick Venthyr, you’ll have fluid gameplay and probably spend most of the expansion using one soulbind.

My other option has been Kyrian, but Vesper Totem seems pretty annoying and not so great with a small radius. Short CD so you’ll spam it alot, and even take another global to move if needed. Apparently Healing Stream Totem procs the heal component, so that’s good. Phial is nice for survivability, especially since Vesper Totem is probably bad in pvp. Kyrian soulbinds seem pretty great and flexible. I could see a few interesting builds.

So it’s definitely a hard choice.

The big problem I have with kyrian is that I also want to do rated pvp, and having a small aoe totem that people can walk out of is just too hard to actually play around…

If thats the reason you’re picking Shaman then I wouldn’t worry too much about your covenant choice. The utility you want is there regardless of covenant. Every class/spec is in the same boat here where changes will affect which is the best covenant. Everyone has to be prepared to change covenants when that happens, right?

I would pick your class/covenant assuming covenants will change. If it does, can you continue to play enh or will you feel like you’re forced to swap to another spec?

Well being used for my utility is just for the raid, I also want to do rated arena to and the other covenants don’t really align with pvp. The kyrian one is stationary for example, it is almost impossible to use this effectively in pvp.

It comes down to this question:

Are you going to want to swap specs/classes if Venthir isn’t the BIS option? If no then don’t worry about it too much. If yes then I would pick another spec because it’s too risky.

I love enhancement too much to switch from it just because of a covenant, just worried about blizzard balancing is all. They aren’t known for their kindness to enhancement afterall…

If Venthyr gets nerfed, it gets nerfed for everyone, with the exception of your class ability.

Go Venthyr or Kirian.

Nightfea is okay but feels clunky (to me).

Necrolord would be better if we had someway to spread flameshock but we don’t so rip. Go necrolord however if you plan on also doing resto cause it’s so good for resto however.
